Baroness Scotland will visit Dominica for four days

Baroness Patricia Scotland, the Secretary General-elect of the Commonwealth, will be making a four-day visit to Dominica at the invitation of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

The baroness is expected to arrive on December 11th and depart on the 15th.

During her four-day stay on the island, she will attend a ceremony at the Vieille Case Primary School for the renaming of the school in her honour. This ceremony will take place on Monday, December 14th at 10.00 a.m.

Dominicans will be given an opportunity to hear from Baroness Scotland and to show their appreciation for her on being elected to such a high office at a national event planned for the evening of that same day. This event will be hosted by the government and will take place at the State House. There she will be officially welcomed by Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit and the Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Senator Hon. Francine Baron.

This will be followed by a Cocktail Reception on the grounds of the State House where entertainment will be provided by the Swinging Stars, the Sisserou Singers and other cultural groups.

This is interesting! Is there any criteria in Dominica for naming public places/entities after people, like all other countries? Yes, it is true that Dominicans should be proud of her accomplishments and honor her by saying congratulations. However, why does the government feel that they have to name something after her? If they have to name an entity after every Dominican who have achieved great accomplishments, they will run out of entities! I could see if they named the school after her, after several years in this new post (providing that she does wonders for Dominica and this school during her tenure), but she has not done anything for the village or Dominica yet. Has she been making substantial contributions to the village or Dominica in the past years? Has she been providing scholarships to children, has she been getting aid for the school, has she been mentoring any of the children, etc, etc? If yes, then name the school after her. If not, this does not make sense.

Opposition forces have a new target in their war on women. They keep trying to degrade women at every turn. And DNO is helping them
The lady was born in Dominica of Dominican parentage, how much more Dominican can you be. We have a lot of Dominican who are born outside Dominica and we are happy to claim them as our fellow countrymen, so I do not understand these attacks…….why.
We also have legal dual citizenship which make citizens of the Commonwealth most favoured.
Then people keep saying what has she done for Dominica. The question is what can she do for Dominica.
I cant understand why all this hate and envy persists towards women.
We like to pretend that we are so much appreciative of diasporas, but we still want to treat them like prostitutes.

I fail to see how this is an attack on women and I fail to see how is DNO helping.

People are clearly outraged at such decision and what you want them to do? Just lie in a fetal position and say nothing? This is not China, although you would it would be.

DNO gives us a channel to express ourselves and you think this is wrong?

    QUESTION:
Are you trying to tell me that because PM Skerrit, (who should, by the way, cease from acting like a Dictator) had a few conversations with this lady, he should overlook all the other persons whether dead or still living who has contributed so much to the development of Dominica in the name of education or otherwise, a name something after her.
Bondier! Not because it is in your village.
PM Skerrit; what are you doing to Dominica?

It’s not about politics right now.. everybody has contributed one way or another after the tropical storm… open your eyes.. Who is Baroness Scotland? What has she contributed to Dominica or to be more specific, Vieille Case, to have the primary school renamed after her? It’s not about politics or about haters… we just want to kno who is she?, what her contribution was and why she has to be honoured

It is about politics and about haters, especially women haters. What is wrong with celebrating the success of a women by honouring her with a building named after her. This is just a landmark.
Are the haters afraid that in twenty years or so people at Vieille Case will ask who is Baroness Scotland…………The first lady in the whole world to become the head of the Commonwealth Secretariat putting her on a par with the Queen, as head of the Commonwealth. She has the experience to do the job. Then people will say …..Good job Skeritt for making a Dominican woman a world, an international person. You have made us proud.

So still so many Dominicans are without a home due to Erika and it seem allu PM is a bit more concerned about everything else than to help put these Dominicans back on their feet. where are the petro houses….how many have been constructed…….is he waiting till he has the 1.5 billion dollars in an account to start feverishly working on rebuilding the nation. I am sorry for Dominicans come 2016……because anyone with commonsense call tell of the impending economical challenge that Dominica will face. I just cannot understand the pace Skerrit is working at in dealing with Dominica and Dominican’s plight after Erika.

Keep strong Dominicans and pray that one day in Skerrit’s 5 year term, he will remember Dominicans and really start to work for this nation.

Be happy! When last a Baroness visited Dominica? You should be happy that a daughter of the soil is a Baroness and Commonwealth SG. You should be proud of her and boast about her. In time you will hear what good she has done for Dominica.

We, the dedicated, faithful, loyal and committed Labourites welcome the Baroness with open arms and look forward to the ceremony where the Vielle Case Primary School will be named in her honor. This most prestigious daughter of our soil has achieved one of the highest offices and positions ever attained by a Dominican national. Her experience and credentials prove to young Dominican women that there is no limit to what they can achieve in this world with hard work and dedication. Labourites especially are very proud of Baroness Patricia Scotland and congratulate her on her historical victory. My comrades and I can’t wait to see the beautiful Baroness in person, to shake her hands and share a toast.

I am delighted that Baroness Scotland will be visiting her native land for four days. I wish that she could stay longer. It is right and proper that Baroness Scotland is given a great reception by the Prime Minister and fellow Dominicans because she is woman of style, substance and significance. Her achievements have been truly remarkable. A copy of Baroness Scotland’s resume should be published on Dominica News Online.

I am so proud of her, and all Dominicans who have made; and are making a difference to the countries where they presently reside.

And why shouldn’t I and ALL Dominicans be proud of Baroness Scotland?

Ms. Scotland’s election as General Secretary of the Commonwealth is good for Dominica for 2 reasons: (1) she is a highly distinguished lawyer and political figure in England who identifies herself as a Caribbean person (specifically Dominican). This fact raises the profile of our country throughout the 53 nations in the Commonwealth; (2) her election enhanced the political capital of our PM who stayed with her in the face of intense opposition and won the day. The more influence our PM has in the OECS and the Commonwealth at large – the better for us.

I am very upset at Skerrit to do such thing. I am wondering if he discussed this with the people before renaming the school. What about Mr. Le blanc the school was built during his time in the Government. What about Teacher Sorhaindo Or maybe John Royer because he was the chairman in the village for years, Mrs. Belony no becuase she did not really spend her teaching in Vieille case. What a shame to do this to us. This Lady is not from Vieille Case what is the cause for this change. I recalled that she is form St Joseph why not there. Frankly speaking they should not attend.

I said, well if she is from St. Joseph, why is a school in Vielle Case being named after her and what has she really done for Dominica? The woman has lived all her life in Britain and all of a sudden she is this great Dominican coming back home to make her name? What about all the great Dominicans who contributed to this country? How come their names don’t stand out? I would really want Skerrit and his followers to answer that question. As far as I am concerned, this woman can go to hell.

You better do a research about her visit(s) to Dominica in the past. Her parents resided in England therefore you should understand that for some years she did not visit Dominica. Nevertheless, she knew about Dominica. I heard that she had visited Dominica when her father was sick. This means he had returned to live in Dominica. If I recall, someone informed me that he had resided in Goodwill. I consider that she visited Dominica a few times, incognito. This is, few people knew she ever visited Dominica. Therefore, put on your thinking cap.

I came across this by accident. I dont live in DA, but John Livingston Royer is my grandfather who lived and served Vieille Case many years past. I am sickened by this as an outsider is to have a renaming performed after her. And I say this because she obviously doesnt live there in Vielle Case. What about those people still on the island who are continuously striving to keep things going there? I wish I was there right now to speak up, but it is very true that people who are there right now must stand up and raise hell. Has anyone forgotten how many lives were lost and how many landmarks were damaged from the latest storm that hit earlier this year? And there is enough time in a day to roll a dirty red carpet for a ceremony that “probably” wont enhance the quality of life for the island? This shit makes me sick. It really does.

Will she announce the amount of funds raised for the relief effort. Why didn’t she come to tour the damage then, since it was part of her lofty new title? Has Skerritt announced if she has relinquished this position due to her recent electoral win? Or are we to wait for her to deliver? The people of Petite Savanne would like to know.

So I take my fastness and say, well … I am not a US resident, I am a student there. So, of which country should I be considered a resident? Mister get all vex and take my DOMINICAN PASSPORT and gave me a date to leave the country … MY COUNTRY!! But all foreigners can be diplomats and have a school named after them when they never even carry a bucket of water to help for community day of service. smh

What classmates and neighbors? She left D/ca when she was two. Who are those classmates and neighbors? I wonder if they know her and how many are alive?
You know her status. Whom do you expect her to associate with and what do you expect of her?

We know for a fact that high on the agenda of Baroness Scottland as Secretary General of the Commonwealth, is gay right. As to Skerrits reason for renaming the Vielle case primary school after Ms. Scottland is a mystery to me, since she is not from Vieille case or that constituency, she has not done anything for that village or constituency, she never served as a parlrep. In fact it is fair to say that apart from Skerrit, who has only succeeded in dividing the villagers and create poverty, the constituency has had some very good parlreps which the school could be named after. Now my question to Mr. Skerrit is, sir by renaming the school after Ms. Scottland, whose priority is to promote gay right, is that promotion likely to begin in Vielle-case? Do you realize one Ms. Scottland’s name appears on anything in the caribbean the first thing will think of is gay. Do you realize people might even want to change the name from Vielle case to Gay Right? Just asking ok

If this is high on her agenda it is because of the UN, WHO and the likes of such organizations and Cameron, Great Britain’s PM. It includes some CARICOM AND OECS members They could influence her and pressure her. Therefore, do not blame her.
Well, the PM has chosen Vieille Case and you must respect his decision as PM. That is that!

  40. December 9, 2015

Skerrit stretching to joke too far now. Is this lady even from Vielle Case? The lady not yet even sitting as Sec-Gen of the Commonwealth he already naming things after her. But what is really going on with this man nuh. So many Dominicans who have contributed significantly to our country with no acknowledgement or honour and this lady already getting this prestigous honour. At least wait for when she leaves office.
I have always voted labour but skerrit is getting me very angry now with is pachet nonsense he doing there. What are his cabinet colleagues saying about that. I could even understand if he name the school after him but what hell Baroness Scotland….there is more to this I am sure. Is that a form of repayment or what??? I am very puzzled.

    • December 9, 2015

I agree with you .I think PM skerrit owes this lady something and now is time to pay back. He probably needs to hush her up before she spills some beans.Call it hush hush schemes

Baroness Patricia Scotland, the Secretary General-elect of the Commonwealth, will be making a four-day visit to Dominica “AT THE INVITATION OF PRIME MINISTER ROOSEVELT SKERRIT.”
But wait na…I thought she was a Dominican. Since when does one need an invitation from the PM to visit their own country? And a school being renamed in her honour!!! Hmm what has she done for the school to deserve this? And then there’s a good time happening after. Hmm Oh well, some shall eat all. Dominicans open allu eyes.

    Anyways, Congrats madam

Glad that I was born early in life when Dominica was sweet with little to no crime; Not like now with all these BS you folks have to contend with. Is satan controlling Dominica now. Even the rivers have dried up. Now the Haitians will soon cut down all your forests to make coal for fuel. Is down hill we heading.

Alah xor the Santa Clause looking fella from Viellecase living in Miami he played cricket for Dominica and windwards; he was on tape recruiting voters in 2014 and 2009 election. Santa Clause Pecalooloo did not get consideration.
    Well if Pecalooloo Santa did not get the school named after him I doh expect an athlete from Viellecase Martha who represented Dominica internationally to get the school named after her. I don’t expect MA Belony. Not even the $50000 birthday and the abortion fella got considered;

So what’s the purpose of renaming the Vieille Case Primary School? Is she making a contribution towards the school or what? The Patricia Scotland Primary School? Hmm. When this happens, I hope that the school will grow and emerge victorious in everything that they do – education and all.

Time for skerrit to get out, all he’s doing is using taxpayers money to travel every 3 days and now entertain the baroness while Dominica children go hungry and the destruction from Erika remain a sore eye. Dominica is not skerri priority, just his foot stool. So for the ones that like to defend him, ask yourself a question, if no one buys Dominica passport what would you do for a living?, how would you feed your children and pay your bills? What is your backup plan? You better have one because you gonna need it.
Soon he will be going to that big house where he has to pick up the soap.
