Blackmoore warns against missappropriation of PWC assets

Public Works Minister Rayburn Blackmoore has issued a strong warning against persons who misappropriate the assets of the Public Work Corporation (PWC).

Speaking at a public works presentation ceremony yesterday, Blackmoore said that the full extent of the law will be used against anyone who is proven to have stolen the corporation’s assets.

“We’re always hearing about who take this and who take that but we never say who we saw taking this. Let me say to you, as a minister… any person who is held misappropriating assets of the Public Works  Corporation will be held responsible,” he stated.

Blackmoore promised a transformed PWC in the near future.

“I want to see a new Public Works Corporation. We have made some changes and let me just say there are more changes to be made and these changes will be made sooner rather than later. We cannot leave what we should do today for tomorrow. And we have to critically look at ourselves and do some serious introspection, are we really working to the best of our ability…are we being fair to the Dominican tax payers?,” he said.

“Somebody drives into a pothole they say…. Skerrit. Nobody says about the persons who are being paid and trained and I am convinced that the persons who are doing the work on the road – patching the roads – they know what they need , supposed to do, they have been trained,” he added.

The minister said that while persons may not agree with some measures that are to be taken, they are in the best interest of the corporation.

“I am in total compliance with that and I will seek to ensure that it is honoured… some persons may not be happy but we have to do what we have to do in the interest of the Public Works Corporation and first of all in the interest of the national interest… Rayburn Blackmoore’s interest cannot be more important than the national interest,” he said.

    What? Another joke?
Is it true that Public works did a major job at Mr Blackmore’s new house?
Is it true that the entire road leading up to his house is being cleaned and spruced up?
Is it true that lots of trees were cut along the main road to open up the view from his house?
Maybe the speech was to himself ? interesting!!

Really and truely we should just stop talking in Dominica and start doing some serious work…..Minister Blackmoore please…..i will bet that next year or so you will be back saying these same words…
.introspection hehehehehehehe…… (Introspection is the self-observation and reporting of conscious inner thoughts, desires and sensations. It is a conscious mental and usually purposive process relying on thinking, reasoning, and examining one’s own thoughts, feelings, and, in more spiritual cases, one’s soul.)
Lets stop with the fancy term and start doing something…if need be fire who have to be fired as u said…they have been trained so if they are not doing the job today they still will not be doing it tomorrow.
And please give PWC some money…the banks are pounding at our doors but we cant pay them because PWC can not pay us….

    Mr Minister
You need to look at the manager. He is doing a lousy job at the head of the PWC. He doesnt know whether he’s coming or going. Get a skilled mechanical individual with
some strong managerial skills and you good to go,
But Mr Minister, if you want PWC to surface, FIRE THE MANAGER, and let him take his girlfriend with him. She is getting a fat salary for doing nothing

Here we go again, signs of retartation showing its ugly head again. What does being a Labourie or UWPrite has to do with people doing the job that they get paid to do. When are people going to go to jail for stealing Government “MATERIAL” and other “SUPPLIES”. We have all heard the stories and some of us have been involved in the BOBOL that have taken place in the pass. It is due time to put a stop to this practice, our resources are limited to begin with let us maximize it for the good of our country, DOMINICA.

    Sir

You are a man that is firm.

I truly think that the Public Works Corporation should be merged with another company in Dominica like say Dowasco.

The synergies are obvious to a very large extent. To begin with, there will be one board for the merged entity, a complementary management team to manage common and specialized functions and most importantly significant savings to taxpayers and no more excuses by Dowasco whenever they dig the roads to lay pipes. It will be just another department team that will be doing the road improvements and the total cost will be captured and evaluate in quick time.

We can meet to discuss further on this idea.

      December 9, 2010

I love this idea!! It is so annoying to see the road works guys working tirelessly to pave the roads, only to see a wk later DOWASCO digging up. Absolutely ridiculous!

        December 10, 2010

Brilliance personified in this idea. How do we get such forward thinking ideas to the decision makers? Any article or statement involving the Public Works Corporation in Dominica is a bore. Driving on our roads tells an unfortunate story of a nation and corporation in ruins.
