Blackmoore said gov’t is committed to protecting life and property

National Security Minister, Rayburn Blackmore, has pledged government’s commitment to do all in its power to put the health of the nation first.

He said this following a massive fire at the Fond Cole landfill last Friday.

He also said government will seek to avoid a re-occurrence of the fire.

“I want to assure the residents of the area of the landfill and the Dominican public at large that this government will do all in its power to ensure that the health of the people of this nation is put first and will seek to avert a similar situation in the future,” Blackmoore said in a statement. “Your government remains committed to protecting both life and property.”

He also said that his ministry “regrets the inconvenience” on the possible adverse effects to the health of residents close to the landfill, other Dominicans and visitors who may have been affected by the smoke and fumes emanating from the fire.

In addition he urged residents in and around the landfill to adhere to the advisory issued by the Ministry of Health.

“I wish to appeal to the members of the public who have no business at the land fill to stay away from the area,” Blackmoore stated. “Let me give the public the assurance that a full and detailed investigation by the relevant authorities is being carried out and I await the report from the investigation in question.”

Blackmoore you should have said so before the dominica political state building was built, before the bed bug and the poupoule infestation started…dominica needed a hospital ,not a big castle for politics and it’s corrupted politicians ,do not try to fool any dominica by telling them that you are concerned about the health system in dominica…the position you wanted in order to secure a monthly salary that was your only concern and goal …remove the rubbish before the tourists arrive in roseau ,i think this is a better idea..as sparrow say ,do try that ,,you have next election in sight get down on your high horse…

I don’t understand why “Blackmore” has to speak about matters that don’t concern him… He needs to worry about the tourists that are getting robbed and so forth when they come to Dominica and all the senseless acts of violence which takes place on a daily basis! :)

Isn’t it time that Dominica investigate why there are so many fires!?

There is no other nation in the Caribbean, or other, with so many unsolved fires!

The excuse that a “bottle” did it is ridiculous! Just ask your chemistry or physics professor!

Furthermore, the stats are reality! Dominica has more fires per population than any other nation in the Americas!

Why doesn’t the Dominican Government get a consultation from American arsonist and fire investigators?

Oh boy, I thought the Minister for Health had spoken? Why does the Minister for national security feel the need to speak as well? How is he qualified to do so? Unles of course ISIS started the fire. Dumb suggestion!! But jeez, just maybe with all the apologizing going on, the fire was an accident??

While I am not a fan of the rhetoric and talk, talk, talk. MR Balckmore is the Minister with responsibility for the Fire and Ambulance service, he has every right to address this Fire event which may have health implications…. lets be fair or make ourselves aware…

Talk, talk, talk… Everyone is out of their hole now. Where were you all on Friday to put your heads together to find a solution to the problem instead of having residents of the area to endure such conditions for all these days?

    Wrong Job Description

This was an environmental problem yet we have a minister responsible for National security talking about an environmental issue. Is this a case of mistaken ministerial position or a case of square pegs in round homes. . Further more, this minister came and made promises about what will be done without any detailed plan. Well we will know how the saying goes, A promise is a comfort to a fool, hmm.

Everything is inside out and upside down. What a comedy of mishaps in this country but then again, what would one expect when there are square pegs in round holes. You get a weak and wobbly structure.

National Security Minister, Rayburn Blackmore, has pledged government’s commitment to do all in its power to put the health of the nation first.
Mr Minister, let me count the ways Health is not first and your ministry is not doing its best:
Education. Dominica has one of the highest obesity rates in the World. Yes the world
Hospital. (or lack thereof) Should I say more. The ministers don’t go there. For many a one way ticket. Lets not even get started on the new one.
Control of diseases, pests, vectors. Chikungunya is your shining example of dealing with crisis best by pretending there is no problem. Oh and even bed bugs and termites we have a problem controlling. Where else? The hospital!
Nurses. as soon as they are trained. They are out.
Medical supplies. What? yep we still buy medicines and linens for our patients
Chronic diseases killing an untold number in DA. Primary care not encouraged.

Please Blackmoore why are you trying to steal the limelight. I thought you wanted to deal with demonstrators with force in January now you are singing a different song.

Raymond please, don’t get involved in a turf battle with Kenneth Darroux. Health is his dept. and not yours. Secondly you are not the constituency M.P. for Roseau north, where the fire took place. I would have thought you have enough on your plate with national security and immigration right now. It is nice that you are concerned for people’s health, so are we all, but for your own good keep your nose out of things where it does not belong.

Rayburn, you are late. All we see is the continuation of square pegs in round holes and vice versa. Nepotism, cronyism and the incompetence exhibited by your government is above and beyond the point any other people but Dominicans would accept. So continue fooling the faithful in your “Fools’ Paradise.”

Hello and good afternoon my people. Well according to this article Mr Blackmore is the National Security Minister therefore he should be responsible for internal and external threat to our country. This fire don’t have anything to do with his position rather it’s the Minister of Health and the Department of sanitation that should be commenting on this fire. The land fill generates a lot of methane gas which must be pump out or flame to burn the gas other wise we will continue to have such events at the land fill. We must consider the negative impact it will have on our tourism industry because it was very pain full to watch the cruise ship leaving with all the smoke in the back ground. The land fill shouldn’t be in town and so close to a major port .

National security encompasses disaster management so that is why he talking I guess.

      • March 18, 2015

        To Tim Tim.

Hello and good morning my people. I do respect your comment but I don’t think a fire at the landfill is a disaster. This incident shows that our Government don’t have a plan because they aren’t addressing the methane gas at the landfill. The Fire commissioner should be the one to address how he’s going to bring this fire under control and what equipment he’s deploying to address this fire. Then we need the Minister of Health to address the consequences to our citizens a specially the young children and senior citizens in regards to respiratory issues.

” National Security Minister, Rayburn Bkackmoore , has pledged government’s commitment to do all in its power to put the health of the nation first”. This sounds like a recipe for a bitter turf battle in a very unhealthy kitchen already full of too many cooks and not enough chefs, some who just love to wash their hands and others who insist on working with dirty hands.

Hahaha! From belligerent to lamb-like behavior? I mean if Dominicans believe this bleating, first from Mr. Min of Health and then this one, they really deserve what they get!
