Book on Kalinago Cuisine launched

The cover of the book

A new book on Kalinago cuisine was launched in the Carib Territory last week.

The book entitled ‘Kalinago Traditional Cookbook’ is a compilation of Kalinago food recipes arising out of a workshop organized by the Karifuna Cultural Group earlier this year.

According to Prosper Paris, a leader in the Karifuna Cultural Group, the objective of the book is to promote Kalinago Cuisine and ensure that visitors to the territory are able to enjoy authentic Kalinago cuisine as part of their experience.

He said the book aims to document various recipes for future generations.

Schools in the Kalinago Territory are also being targeted for the development of a Kalinago cuisine programme and the book will serve as an important resource for this, according to Prosper.

Funding for the project was provided by the Robinson Trust Fund, a fund established to assist development projects in the Kalinago Territory.

The book launch formed part of activities in the Carib Territory to mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People observed each year on August 9.

The ceremony was attended by participants of the workshop as well as various officials including the Minister for Tourism Ian Douglas, Dr. Lennox Honychurch, Kalinago Councillors and Chief Cultural Officer Raymond Lawrence.

Also on hand was a delegation from the town of St.Anne in Martinique led by deputy Mayor, Jean Luc Ega.

great to see the Kalinago people moving forward. I really hope someone that has access to the reservation sees my message and informs the people, the Kalinago people are the descendants of the biblical Tribe of Dan, which makes them hebrew israelites. You can read about their migration from Israel to the carribean in the apocryphal book of 2 Esdras 13:40-50. They migrated to “Arzareth” (i.e. North, south, central america & the carribean) along with the other 10 tribes of Israel (i.e. Taino, arawak, maya, incas, etc.). The kalinago , along with all the other indigenous peoples of the americas fit the curses of Deutoronomy 28:68. The only reason Colombus knew of the so called “new world” was because he read the book of 2 esdras and knew their were 10 lost tribes. For more info visit israelunite.org and click “12 tribes today”. shalom

Sounds like an intetresting publication. The Kalinago Council also needs to have a sales outlet for the book in the greater Roseau area.
