BREAKING NEWS: Police release Joseph Isaac without charge

Isaac moments after he was freed

Roseau Central MP, Joseph Isaac, was released by police on Monday afternoon without charge hours after he was taken into custody.

At around 5:30 am police descended on his home, searched it and then took him to Police Headquarters.

He was reportedly questioned in relations to disturbances in Roseau on the night of February 7.

Joseph walked out of Police Headquarters at about 1:15 pm to a crowd of supporters who began shouting “Skerrit must go.”

Isaac on the phone after he was released

His attorney, Gildon Richards, said he was asked “almost the same questions.”

“So if it is the same question, it is the same answers, which are no answers” he said.

He warned the leadership of the United Workers Party that the police are coming “after the elected members now.”

Isaac is the fourth person to be taken into custody in what police say is the investigation into the violence in Roseau, which took place after a meeting by the United Workers Party (UWP) and the Dominica Freedom Party.

UWP senator, Thomson Fontaine, was taken into custody and released without charge. Former Deputy Leader of the UWP Claudius Sanford was also taken into custody and charged with ‘suspicion of obstruction.’

Dominica Freedom Party General Secretary, Johnson Boston, was taken in by the police and was released a few hours later without charge.

DNO is following this latest development and will provide more information as it becomes available.

We never know how I feels until it hits home. When the Salisbury saga occurred, I heard so many assess braying like they knew what it was to have bullets flying in your parents house. If you have information about a coup attempt and you are investigating, then you call people in and ask questions. Issuing of ridiculous warrants to search people’s homes at five in the morning is preposterous. There was no basis for these searches. Even worse, you take a person into custody and have nothing to charge them with. This is a clear abuse of power and a page out of the book of the Chinese. I will wait to see how long Dominicans will take this.

Sadly, all Dominicans who have voiced in the past any criticism of the Skerrit regime must now seriously consider their own safety and that of their families. The grapevine news is that the ‘soft’ arrests are to gauge the resolve of Dominicans. The next steps are likely to be far harsher and may involve fatalities for ‘resisting arrest’. Remember the ‘soft warning’ to GON Emanuel when he attempted to sue the PM’s lawyer for fraud?

My recommendation is that all Dominicans fearing for their lives and safety should apply for refugee status to the UK, EU (Sweden/ Germany/ Norway/ Spain) and the USA as their lives and safety are in danger from a dictatorial regime.

These applications may not be successful, but they will certainly draw international attention to what the Skerrit regime, supported by his Caricom henchmen are doing to Dominicans.

right now we do not have a legitimate govt. this regime has lost the trust of the people right now skerrit is imposing himself on dominicans using our sons ,daughters and relatives in the police force against us . the wrongs of this govt. has now reach the high heavens.

The call for Skerrit to leave office will continue . We will not change this demand and it will continue relentlessly throughout the coming days , weeks and months .
Skerrit knew that the only topic Dominicans were listening was the Monfered arrest with 2 Dominican passports. So this was very embarrassing and potential up-rising by his own party members to kick him out, so he decided to divert the DLP supporters by concocting a charge of coup attempt . So the arrest we are seeing going on every other day is by design and not because these UWP and Freedom party leaders said or planned anything to overthrow Skerro. ‘
Smart Dominicans , know that these guys do not have the means in anyway what so ever to carry out such a damaging blow, and we are not believing anything Skerrit and carbon tell us.

Certainly not. The investigations into the riots in Roseau will continue undeterred. The statutory limit to press charges are not anywhere close. So enjoy the moment of “release without charge”. It must come to a boil some day – perhaps “later than sooner”. Then you, workers supporters and labourites alike, all of us will be singing a different tune.

Roseau, you believe who you want. I believe the PM and in my opinion, the PM is far more credible. I am not saying not to listen to the fake news the UWP normally spreads, but if you only listen to one source of news, you will never be able to determine for yourself what is true and what is false.

Question? Did any UWP member prevented the truck from going in the direction as instructed by the Police Officers? What were the reasons for not following the orders given by the officers? What did they do?

Why didn’t the meeting end at 3:00 PM as was agreed upon?

Why didn’t the Organizers of the meeting/protest close the meeting as is the normal thing to do and asked the people to go home and get home safe.

We cannot forget how the protest, changed to meeting then protest was being advertised before and during the meeting, protest and riot.

So you can believe whom you want. However, the majority of us do believe the intention was a coup gone bad. God protect DA.

  19. The writing of prophet Elisha
    February 20, 2017

Skerrit’s behavior reminds me of the behavior of a very evil king evangelist Peter R Augustin use to preach about. His name was Jehoram, who was married to the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel. King Jehoram was so wicked that the first thing he did was to kill his six brothers nd. Chronicles 21, just to make sure he keeps power to himself. I tell you evil people will do anything to hold on to power.

After that took place here is what a true prophet of God called Elisha, had to say to King Jehoram:

“…Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods: 15 And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.

Mr. Skerrit, I pray the words of the writting of Elisah over you every day boy. Who hates me let them not mention the name of Elisha, because my prayer is based entirely on his writing.

“SKERRIT MUST GO” is not a call that can be effective by WORD OF MOUTH, for the people shouted CRUCIFY HIM pertaining to Jesus, which could not have happened without the physical actions.

The point which I am making is to show you people, that the police know well enough, what they are doing, by taking in those certain people in for questioning–whether they will answer those questions or not.

And those who are not answering the questions have already proven themselves guilty–even if they were not charged; there must be a next time, PHYSICAL PROTEST, if the “WORD OF MOUTH CALL” must be effective–the arrest and question will not be the same.

For people, whoever they are, will be thrown in jail for malicious behavior, the only Lawyer who would be able to set them free, would be God Himself–but that would be too bad, in that they would be in no ones captivity but He, Himself.

For He has said: “NO FLESH SHALL GLORY IN HIS PRESENCE”

    February 20, 2017

In my humble opinion this harassment and intimidation tactics have got to stop, sooner rather than later.

If you have a person of interest (in this so called “coup”) whom you wish to question, can you not act in a civilized manner and place a phone call asking the person to come in to Police Headquarters. I am certain that the person(s) will comply without hesitation. This practice of rounding up people in the wee hours of the morning does not send a good signal.

Do you know the medical history of the said individual? Do you know whether there are children and/elderly people in the house who no doubt will be traumatized for the rest of their life?

    Come on, act responsibly.

This is all of our damn business to ensure that he does not let off the hook. To me you sound like that T&T guy that could sing everything good about Dominica, but would not identify himself with our struggles as clearly stated in his song, “Dominica I love you”, and some how he got placed, as he clearly states in one line ” I respect the efforts of YOUR PM and the concerns of the opposition”. These arrests are clearly intended to harass, provoke and intimidate. The military-style arrests are purposely perpetrated to send shivers through the Opposition leadership and their supporters. To invade someone’s home under the guise of suspicion of a crime, at these unholy hours of the morning, is unconscionable. These futile raids that have not yielded a scintilla of evidence of any wrongdoings should be halted with immediacy. These arrests are only giving the Court and the Police Force a real Black Eye.

Did the prime minister ever thought that the people who decided to do such a thing might have nothing to do with the demonstration but to make things look bad for the country. I think that both sides are acting like children. So please act like adults which you all are.

This is outrageous at so many levels. It is political persecution orchestrated by this dictatorial regime. This regime is modelling after their counterparts in Venezuela, Cuba and China. We MUST remain focus on what brought us here in the first place which is, the sale of Dominican Diplomatic Passports to criminals.

  41. I am going to tell the opposition members how to stop the harassment!

My advise is to buy a slog pale fill it with human and dog feces with water, set it up high where the police has to reach up to get it down to search to see what is in it. Hopefully when the reach up for it, will fall over in the face, and all over their body, that will bring an end to ridiculous illegal behavior!

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha!

I eivicted a woman one time, when I went into the apartment clean out getting ready to rent, I saw a pot on a high shelf, I went up stood on something and lift it down, only to fine the pot was filled with burnt cooking oil, if I had only use one hand to take that pot down I would be splashed with that dirty oil all over me.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahhahaahahhahaha!

This entire arrest order is sinister to say the least people are in fear of having their homes raided and searched this is wrong, a cease and desisit order must be placed or this will promote more than ill will towards the Police

According to Skerrit, these are thing Mike and Rosie Douglas did while they were in opposition and when they went out of Dominica, it was to fetch opportunities for Dominicans.

“These are the things we did in opposition,” he noted
