The fisheries market complex in Roseau is now on lockdown as fish vendors stage protest action.
The vendors said they and fishermen are not being treated properly by those in authority.
They are also unhappy about a new board which was elected to run the affairs of the complex.
The road to the complex has been blocked as the vendors made known their grievances. They say they will continue protesting until they are heard by those in authority.
DNO is following this developing story.
What is their grievance? Who is really behind this?
In bygone years Dominica did not have that problem. They had no ice then and on such a scale. They did not complain. When something does not exist no one complains. There is no need for it.
In those days fishermen caught the fishes. They went to Roseau to sell them and wherever else in the country. They were paid and returned home happily. They were independent people with no restrictions.
I ate a lot of fish in those days. Fish is called brain food. This accounts for my love for eating fish. Of course, certain ones as Jacks, Red Fish and some others.
It is noted there is a price to pay for progress. Some of it is dissatisfaction.
I hope this protest will end soon.
Protest en worth a thing within a despotic system but the lady in the light blue jeans looks great from behind for sure. Ummm Ummm umm.
Forget about politics let us have our fish for independence and we will talk to the minister next week!
Thank God they are not from Salisbury or else they would have been given teargas and live bullets for blocking road.
I meant to say..everybody fed UP with this Government
Everybody fed UP with this Government…stand up for you to rights
Everybody fed with this Government…smh
Everybody fed UP with this Government
So because nobody turned out to the UWP diaspora meeting?
That is not true all , many of us was at the meeting, you must not lie like the pm Dominican open all your mind for once, and stop spreading false new low minded Dominican
Our government working eh!
DEMOCRACY is ALIVE in DOMINICA!
I was in Ft. Jean the other day. No ice making facilties there and they have to carry teir catch all the way to Roseau. That community is wilting away, so sad.
there is an ice machine in Fond St. Jean
Is it working??
Maybe you shipping all the fish to Miami now mr. Drigo? Nothing left for our local people, they too poor?
What is the issue?
Pssssh!!! The postal workers went back into their dust and asbestos after one hour of work stoppage. You all will be back to work soon in those same conditions. Nice try though..
TWOP PARLÉ
Let me tell you, those woman fishmongers at Roseau fish market are not mealy mouthed weaklings and depending on govt. handouts like others. They can speak up for themselves very well, trust me.

So who are calling to, to deal with whatever the situation for their benefit? Here is what the news article said: “They say they will continue protesting until they are heard by those in authority”. If that authority does not belong in the Government, who are they?
The article says ” the vendors made known their grievances” but does not say what these are. The readers would be grateful, DNO, for information on the nature of the grievances.
Management gave priority to vendors of WCMF and other vendors for ice and there is none left for fishermen. Fish spoiling, their catch cannot be stored. the ice making machine has issues also
That’s a lie…..the protest was staged by a disgruntled employee who was transfered to the New town facility.
stupes! once all you have to be storing fish all you doh ready yet.
Catch of the day should be just that….catch of the day. Not catch of last week.
there we go again. let democracy reign
