BREAKING NEWS: Rebels have captured Gadhafi’s compound

Hundreds of Libyan rebel forces fought their way into Moammar Gadhafi’s compound in the country’s captial of Tripoli today, Reuters reported.

Cheers rang out in the streets and from inside the compound as the fighting continued. Large plumes of thick, black smoke could be seen rising from the area. Opposition fighters were seen firing into the air in celebration inside the compound, and opposition radio reported that an independence flag was raised over Gadhafi’s compound, according to the BBC.

Al Jazeera captured video of rebel soldiers driving around the grounds inside the compound, while others walked away with guns and other supplies slung over their shoulders. Rebel fighters were also seen kicking the bronze head of Gadhafi’s statue, which was removed some time after the rebel forces stormed the compound. A few also climbed on top of the infamous statue of a golden hand crushing a jet fighter that stands in front of a building bombed by the United States in 1986.

Major British businesses are hatching intends to relaunch their organizations in Libya – just days after news of the apparent downfall of the Gaddafi regime. Previously war-torn capitals like Baghdad and Kabul have rapidly become targets for western capitalism, with major US and European merchants now jostling for position on purchasing streets.

Chavez: Venezuela’s embassy in Tripoli ‘attacked and plundered’
    By the CNN Wire Staff

    STORY HIGHLIGHTS

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez condemns “imperial insanity” behind unrest in Libya
He calls for respect and protection for Venezuela’s ambassador and embassy staff
“The drama of Libya … is only beginning,” Chavez says
Chavez and Moammar Gadhafi are close allies

(CNN) — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez told reporters Wednesday that his country’s embassy in Libya’s capital was “attacked and plundered.”

Chavez demanded respect and protection for his country’s ambassador and embassy staff, and condemned the “imperial insanity” that he said was behind the “destruction” of the North African nation, Venezuela’s state-run VTV reported.

“The drama of Libya does not even end with the fall of (Moammar) Gadhafi’s government,” Chavez said. “It is only beginning.”

Chavez and Gadhafi are close allies.

The Venezuelan president has spoken out numerous times since the unrest erupted in Libya, accusing the United States and other countries of blowing the situation out of proportion to justify an invasion.

On Tuesday he said Venezuela would recognize only a Libyan government led by Gadhafi.

“From here we confirm our solidarity with the Libyan people, our brother that is being assaulted and bombed,” the state-run AVN news agency reported.

Gadhafi was on the brink of unifying AFRICA.

THIS WAS THE BIGGEST THREAT TO THE WESTERN POWERS!

Can you imagine a United States of Africa with the amount of natural resources available to them all?!

Gadhafi was no angel but he understood what unity could do to change the face of the African continent using the gold dinar, a single African currency made from gold, ‘…a true sharing of the wealth’.

Please take time to view the links and base your reasoning on logic.

You guys seem to forget that Libya is an Arab country. Wait till they wake up tomorrow and suddenly realize that they are now being ruled by infidels.

I am no way feeling sorry for Gaddafi, but watch as it really sink in with the Libyans who NATO really came to rescue; them or their oil…

Those in Dominica who think that they have a monopoly in government and taking advantage of their political positions must take notice of what happened in Lybia and Egypt.

Their days are numbered as well.

Why are some of our Dominicans so uncivilized in their disagreements?

Go to http://www.presstv.com for example and see how normal people comment and respond to each other. This is how civilized people agree and disagree.

As I’ve said before, let us see what happens to Libya now. We need to ask ourselves who will truly benefit, the Libyan people or NATO and her zionist allies? Do you think these scum of the earth will spend millions of dollars and do not make back their “profits?”

We shall wait and see, many of our Dominican people fail to see the destructive elements of imperialism and colonialism. I strongly believe NATO had no right in these people country. If they wanted to help then they should sell arms to the rebels but the fight should be the rebels against Gaddafi. This is an internal affair. Iran for e.g, do not directly fight in Afghanistan against Americans but they provide 90% of the ammunition to the Taliban to kill Americans.

    • only
      August 24, 2011

True. NATO or rather the UN does not invade countries for “their own good or to do good or to bring democracy.” They do it for their own selfish reasons (the elite mafia that runs the world) and they have nothing to do with being humanitarian. It is called greed, profit, and control.
It is almost to the point where they won’t even need humans to fight the wars. They have developed robotics and drones.

      • 1979
        August 24, 2011

NATO did not “invade” Libya, though they may have their reasons for aiding the rebels. the people of Libya were the “invaders” if u insist on referring to the Libya situation as an invasion
