The old West Bridge will demolished and reconstructed

Bus stops in the vicinity of the West Bridge, leading out of Roseau, are being temporarily relocated to facilitate works in the area.

Works on the West Bridge project and associated works are expected to begin on Sunday this week.

According to the Ministry of Public Works, effective Saturday, June 4, the following bus stops will be relocated:

-St. Joseph bus stop- Northern side of River Street, between Great George Street and King’s Lane.

-Mahaut bus stop- Western side of Great George Street, between the intersections of Kennedy Avenue and River Street, opposite Jolly’s Pharmacy and All Saints’ University.

-Goodwill/Fond Cole bus stop(s)- Southern side of Riverbank, between Upper Lane and Great George Street, opposite Pizza Palace.

-Kalinago Territory/Castle Bruce bus stop(s)- Baytown bus stop, next to Raffoul and Co. Ltd.

-The Marigot/Portsmouth/Salisbury bus stop(s) will remain in place.

The West Bridge will be closed to the general public from Sunday, June 5, 2016, for the commencement of works.

The $18-million contract was signed between NSG Management & Technical Services Ltd. and will include the demolition and reconstruction of the West Bridge, reconstruction of a retaining wall, and associated drainage works between the West Bridge and the EC Loblack Bridge, and dredging the Roseau River between the Dominica China Friendship Bridge and the EC Loblack Bridge.

The matter is now mired in controversy after concerns were raised that the project was not signed in line with the Public Procurement and Contract Administration Act.

      DONKEY HOLE:

    • I wonder why people are thumbing down that comment.

It is true that is for the face of our city, a safety for our people, our commuters of that bridge; how can people find a crime in such plan and work, so much to decline and to go as far as taking in to court–just because it was not handed to a local company–which of course, their is a good reason for that.

Barbados gave to us after Storm Erika–we have to give and take; what did that local business, which is now so enviously engrossed, because that contract was not given to them–what did they give back to their own people who needed help?

What kind of judge will want to hear this stupid case–good grief!

Can’t this West bridge wait? There are so many things that need to be done in this country. Why the west bridge in this hurricane season? Focus focus focus. Roseau is so small do we need all these bridges to enter or exit. Begin work on the hospital, help the people get into proper homes before a disaster comes so many are still displaced. Get Roseau clean it stinks. Focus focus and finish something for once in your life. Finish the Dominica grammar school which do not have a proper yard for the kids to play sports . what are you guys doing ? Focus focus focus

good going pm skeritt, your people told you to go ahead with the project. the same people will be fast to tear you apart if that bridge comes tumbling down. every time they see the government is able to go head with a project, they shift the goal post. every thing has a time and a place. you are organised and so you are right on track in completing the goal set out in the manifesto.

Plenty chief and no Indians that is what Dominica is

  8. June 2, 2016

The present state of Dominica reminds me of when the disciples of Christ were confronted with a very bad demon they could not cast out, and when they asked Jesus why they couldn’t cast it out, Jesus told this this type only goes out by prayer and fasting. This evil government of Skerrit Wichita is worse than the demon, will not go out by an election or talk show; how does it go out? Your is as good as mine.

DNO, I ended my comment by quoting the last part of Matt. 11:12which reads: and violent men take it by force.- New American Standard Bible . I really do not know why you deleted that part because it is a portion of scripture Christians love and pastors and the evangelist love to preach from. In fact here is the entire verse:
“From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.

The bridge is not for Skerrit it is for All of us who live
work and visit..God forbid if during the Hurricane Season
something happen what would u think

    • @My final call June 2, 2016

You are right not to tell us what it is that is “as good as yours” for their is no comparison between that demon possessed boy and the situation in our Dominica

The demon in the boy was not hurting anyone but the boy himself; but the demon in Dominica is the ones who are trying to disturb everything that the Government is undertaking, for the betterment of our country.

But since you are referring to Jesus, think carefully, that He removed the demon from the boy–for Him alone could do that. So do you say that God is allowing the demon government to continue reigning over a Nation of people who show reverence to Him?

I don’t think so; for it is not demon possessed people who has brought Dominica to this present level from when I left in 1974 We Dominicans have more to be thankful for, than to be spending our precious time nurturing gloom and darkness–it is all in our mind of futility and death.

I can foresee that the bridge will be dismantled and unusable right in the middle of the hurricane season. Is that the emergency mr. Skerrit is alluding to? If so it will be a man-made one with him as the main protagonist. He is a very silly and mischievous boy.

  10. WHY?
    June 2, 2016

Why? is this bridge a priority at this time what happened to the displaced PETIT SAVANE PEOPLE .

      June 3, 2016

Its in my opinion that Dominicans do not like to see progress in their country. We sit and Complain and when the government decides to make an effort we always find faults.

GO TO HELL!!! GO TO HELL!!!

I think the PM of Dominica just told all Dominicans Go To Hell again by moving
forward with the project although a majority of Dominicans are questioning if giving
the project to a Barbados company without the bidding process was legal.

    • @1 800 CONCERNED June 2, 2016

A majority of Dominicans you say! Where did you get that figure from. I hope you are not using the responses here to determine that idea eh! There is no way the majority of Dominicans have objected to that project–we are for PM Skerrit, who has the majority vote–now be careful, you see!

  12. David verses Goliath
    June 2, 2016

We know Dominica has a mighty Goliath in the person of Skerrit, but the lingering question is, Do we have a David? Is there a David hiding somewhere? So far we have see that as good a person and gentleman Lennox Linton is, he sure is not that David, and might be a Saul. The PSU general secretary seems to be a very good gentleman, but sure not the David we looking for. Anthony leblanc seems to be a good spokesman like Arron, but sure is not the David Dominica needs. We have a lot of talkers that all mean well. but they are not the David we need. My God, where is the David of 1 Samuel 17, that Dominica so badly needs to take on Mighty Goliath Skerrit? Is he born as yet or is he somewhere hiding?
That little boy from Viellecase and his four police officers, have the entire country afraid. What is happening Dominica? help us Lord! Send us a deliverer speedily before Skerrit destroys everything we have remainig

    • Okay, but you have spoilt your idea by using the wrong examples. David and Goliath is good, but when you mention Aaron (not Arron) you need to bring along Moses –not David. The talkers would be the prophets and yes Samuel was one of them–not David.

David can be compared with PM Skerrit, for he too had more enemies than everyone else in Israel–read the Psalm and you will know what I am saying.

The same for PM Skerrit–but just like David, God is walking with PM Skerrit, to save him from his enemies-who the UWP and its followers.

David, Aaron, and the prophets were never the deliverer–not even Moses. But God Almighty, Himself, in the Person of Christ Jesus was and still is the deliverer. Unfortunately for you, He is working with PM Skerrit–most definitely.

You should be giving thanks and gratitude to Him. our God–the I AM WHAT I AM; instead of crying foul–what you are calling for will only come to you and yours with you.

Why would the Portsmouth/ Salisbury/Marigot bus stops remian the same and the Kalinago Territory/Castle Bruce bus stop moved? I thought the ones closer to the bridge would have been moved. That makes no sense whatsoever.

    June 2, 2016

Who is disrespectful now, Skerrit? Even though to damn well know that the majority of Dominicans are not in favour of this project, for whatever reason, you still press ahead. Even though there is a court case on the horizon regarding the legality of this project, you still press ahead with it? It’s either your way or no way, isn’t it? You better get of your high horse otherwise we take you of it. You are pushing it to the limit.

    • forreal
      June 2, 2016

Gabriel your hardened support for the UWP cause will get you know where, you do not speak for no majority, your agenda is weak, take a back seat…..we had enough of you and your cronies man …get lost

      • @forreal

If I could see you in person, I would shake your hands for 30 minutes.

What do these people think they are saying, talking about majority objecting to such a needed project? Where did they get their count from?

That is how I know that the UWP followers are no one but headless people, who have no wisdom and understanding of Life. The hierarchy of the UWP objects to everything the Government decides to implement.

Linton called for the building of an International Airport, right after storm Erika, now he is grumbling about the rehabilitation of a Bridge, which is costing nothing, compared to the cost of an International Airport.

Now these dummies are talking majority. Was it the majority who commanded PM Skerrit to step down in 30 days? Is it the majority who has suggested that PM Skerrit should cancel his candidate for the June 7th Soufriere election?

Let it be known, Mr Roosevelt Skerrit is the Prime Minister of DA–not Lennox Linton.
