The fire department has reported an increase in bush fires on the island and is warning citizens to be vigilant.
The dry season has made the island prone to bush fires, according to fire officials.
Public Relations Officer of the Fire Department, Wayne Letang, said most of the bush fires recorded so far this year, were started by people.
“We find that every station all around the country, they are reporting an increase in bush fires,” he said.
Letang said the department responded to a number of fires on the weekend and they were all bush fires. “If we look for example, over the weekend, the Roseau station alone responded to 10 bush fires on Saturday and Sunday. That is double what we may have had in February. We are encouraging people to be vigilant. Remember it is the dry season,” he said.
It is the dry season. We are only in March and the hot season has not yet begun as in June, July and August.
Fire Department if only you had the means and expertise to investigate those bush fires to ensure that at least a few were not set. This occurs if not in DA but elsehwere in the world. Please keep this in mind.
The Roseau Fire Dept is doing a great job in responding to calls. Keep it up guys
