Digicel Play gave one year’s worth of free Internet to the Marigot Community Tourism Committee (MCTC) to develop sustainable tourism initiatives in the community through its Tourism Information and Craft Centre.

The MCTC is a non-profit organisation which focuses on the development of sustainable tourism in Marigot. Earlier this year, it assumed responsibility for the Tourism Centre which is strategically located near to Dominica’s main airport in Marigot. The facility offers locally-made baskets, beverages and handbags among other souvenirs, for sale. The proceeds will go towards the maintenance of the centre but, ultimately, the goal is to use the funds to invest in the development of the community’s tourism product.

During a recent visit, Digicel Dominica Marketing Manager, Nathalie Walsh, said; “Tourism is everybody’s business and Digicel Play is happy to support the MCTC – an organisation which promotes Dominica’s amazing culture and heritage and is also developing its communities in a beneficial way. We are impressed with the work that is taking place in Marigot through the Centre and want to see more people getting involved in this worthwhile activity.”

President of the MCTC, Jennifer Pascal, said; “The internet service provided by Digicel Play comes at a time when the organisation is in its early stage of operating the Tourism Information and Craft Centre. The free Internet service will be used for the expansion of our office activities which includes informing people about what we do around Marigot through our Facebook page and our website. We want to thank Digicel Play for partnering with the Marigot Community Tourism Committee and helping us to reach more people in Dominica.”

Good Initiative by MCTC….. But I would like to hear of the bigger plans for branding Marigot as a major stop for Tourist.

I think the proximity to the airport gives Marigot an advantage if a proper product is developed.
