Today, October 11, 2018, is International Day of the Girl Child and the Director of Lifeline Ministries Tina Alexander is using the observance to strengthen calls to raise the age of consent to 18 years.
The age of consent in Dominica is 16 years but Alexander said men are still not respecting the age of consent.
“Someone under the age of 18 is not allowed to drink, to drive, to vote and to have medical treatment and in my view is also not ready to choose a sexual partner,” Alexander told Dominica News Online
The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the challenges girls face, and promotes girls’ empowerment and fulfillment of their human rights.
The United Nation said in its report today that adolescent girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life, not only during their critical formative years, but also as they mature into women.
The theme for this year’s observance is “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”.
Way more people support her than you haters. She’s has been contributing to Dominica for 20+years. This is her home. I suspect most of you haters have something personally against her. Like probably you went to her ministries of support like money and items, but after repeatedly begging and not helping your self you got turned away.
So whether we be 16 or above 18 we are saying that the laws of a country superseded the laws of God?
I have been looking for a comment to support but truth must be told! Did the lord say that we should have sex before marriage? I was there people. Why don’t we educate our youth on abstinence?
You see, the plan is going through. We see right in front of us but do not see the end of the road, therefore we don’t see the ditch! Where there is no vision the people perish! You may say but they will still do it anyway.
Where is religious education gone to? Where are our churches? Why are we afraid to speak up for the future of our children? Cant you see that teenage pregnancy, sexual transmitted diseases, poverty are all on the rise?
This is not the plan of God for our lives. Why are we accepting those things!!!
Young ladies read your bible and say no! run away! report them! Your virginity is for your husbands or nothing!

The laws presently on the books concerning age of consent should be first rigorously and vigorously enforced. There are just too many cases of unlawful carnal knowledge and sexual assaults that are not given the attention they deserve. Too many sexual predators are getting away with their deviant and felonious behavior.
I strongly approve this. A 16 year old girl is a 5th former, sometimes they may still be in 3rd-4th form, still receiving government aid for school supplies, also are unqualified to get a minimum wage job, also they are under supervision and protection of the law and the list continues. Allowing a 16 year old to make grown up decisions which the age of consent permits, encourages teenage pregnancy and spreading of disease in adolescence. Yes we put measures in place to protect them, advise them to abstain or practice safe sex. But as the law says “a minor can’t think for him/ herself ” and in my offence once you’re a highschool child you’re a minor and a raise in the age is needed. We are legal at the age of 18, until then I don’t believe teens such as myself, should have the authority to make our own life decisions before we are LEGAL! If the change is not accepted then reduce the legal age and put it 16. Allow us to vote at 16, allow us to drink at 16, ALLOW IT ALL!

Yes Tina I am with you on this one. At 18, a girl is an Adult. With the age of consent at 16 as it is now, The parents are still responsible for the girl. She is known as a minor, yet she can consent to sex. Is this a joke? Parents responsible. So yes even if you do not agree because you may want free sex at 16 or you may want to have sex because it is your body. Let me say this, your body belongs to God. And should be kept pure for your husband to be. The men who like to prey on young ones – your body too is to be kept pure for your lifelong partner who is supposed to be your wife. I sound too primitive! yes I do but the word of God is true – It is not me saying that! Promiscuity does not pay – it has risks with it . The famous aids, syphilis, gonorhea etc, herpes. Age of consent should coincide with an Adults age which is 18.

Tina I’m with you on this one..When I was 16 I saw 16 y.o girls as big ppl but now that I’m a mature person I see the majority of 16 y.o girls as young children still unable to rationalize on a mature level and make critical decisions.
Tina go a step further and make a bid to develop a program to Usher both boys (bachelor eligibility program) and girls (debutante cotillion program) into adulthood.
In the Caribbean we don’t seem to take the passage into adulthood seriously. We just let the boys do their own thing and the girls their own thing..They could learn a lot about what to expect and how to cope with relationships and life through such programs..

Tina Alexander is on her personal mission and I have no more confidence in her. Her involvement in the Joshua saga is very disgraceful and al respect I had for her disappeared. So I pay her absolutely no mind
This is not about Tina. This is not about politics. This is about awareness of a global problem . THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN from being sexual victims . This is about revamping the laws to ensure that children are protected. If you have daughters and grand daughters you must appreciate this idea.

This individual has used Dominica to elevate herself way above her station! Dominicans wise up. Open allu eyes. Think for yourselves. the authorities are not interested in that. it has no bearing on the election results, as a matter of fact raising it might just cost them the election. they are the biggest perpetrators.
I suggest that you focus on having emphasis placed on the current age of consent. There is hardly any consequence to the rampant violation of this law, where so many girls under the age of consent are openly involved with older men. So are we just seeking to increase the age of consent for sake of it?
