The general public is being called to be vigilant as a tropical depression approaches the Lesser Antilles.
The system is expected to affect Dominica on Thursday, according to the Met Office.
“The tropical system is likely to maintain depression status through Thursday and there is the possibility that the island may experience significant rainfall as the weather is expected to deteriorate during early Thursday morning and is expected to impact the island for the rest of the day,” the Met Office said.
In anticipation of the passage of the weather system officials are calling on the general public to take all necessary proactive action to reduce the adverse impacts of the system.
The public and more specifically people living in flood, landslide and rock fall prone areas are to be very vigilant and to exercise extreme caution, according to the Met Office.
Motorists and other users of the roads are required to be cautious and to be on the alert for falling and fallen rocks, mudslides, landslides and broken trees and branches. Farmers are asked to guard against tethering animals along water ways such as rivers, ravines including dry water ways.
Fisher folk are to monitor the advisories on sea conditions and to be in a state of readiness to take the necessary action to safe guard their boats and fishing gear if the need arises.
