Canefield Urban Council chairman confident of reelection

Simeon Albert

Chairman of the Canefield Urban Council Simeon Albert says he is confident of reelection in the upcoming September 20th polls because of the progress he has made on behalf of the community over the past years.

On a local Kairi FM radio program Tuesday morning, the chairman said he and other members of the council were able to listen to the people of the community and provide them with the facilities they needed.

His statement comes in spite of wide criticisms from members of the community.

In outlining reasons why he should be reelected, Albert said his administration was able to complete several milestone projects for the people of Canefield.

“When I came in the council nine years ago, one of the concerns of the people in that area was the condition of the roads in River Estate. As a council we took up this challenge with the government… and I can proudly say today that these roads have been completed with drainage and pavement…” he said.

The council chairman spoke also about road and drainage works in other areas, as well as house lot allocations and several other achievements of his administration.

“We promise that in this term of office we would work with members of the parliament…” he said.

Regarding the issues of waste on and around the Donkey Beach area, Albert said that people who operate on the beach also have the responsibility to make sure the beach is well kept and people do not continue to use it as a dumping ground.

“As the chairman of the council I cannot be everywhere at the same time. I need the people who are residing in the area or work there to report these matters so that we can take action,” Albert said.

He noted that currently the council is working to get the scrap metal shipped off the island.
