Caribbean residents describe dire situation as food, water run out

Water being distributed to Irma affected people

A week after Hurricane Irma struck a string of Caribbean islands, some residents find themselves in darkness, as power remains out and increasingly worried as food and water run scarce.

In the storm’s aftermath, residents and tourists described a volatile situation with vexing challenges ahead that have forced people to fend for themselves.

“You listen to the radio. You call. But nobody comes,” said Leroy Webb, a resident of St. Maarten, which is the Dutch part of the island. The French side of the island is called St. Martin.

“I even don’t know how long it will take before people here get food. This morning, my wife was making soup with just two potatoes in it. We have nothing to eat,” he told CNN affiliate RTL Netherlands.

I feel for those people as food and water are necessities. We cannot blame anyone for this except Hurricane Irma. As sad as it is for lack of food and water, they must understand that this will occur after a hurricane. Help is coming. It is on the way.
I read Ontario donated $150,000 to Irma relief in hard-hit Caribbean. Other countries did likewise.
All money donated has to go through a process and to banks. Then food must be purchased and brought to those areas; also water.
Consider if they are brought by boat and also by air. Some of those areas are impassable.
Dominica went through this after David and also TS Erika. Other countries experienced their share of hurricanes and their aftermath.

Roosevelt, you are really out of touch now my friend. Please pause, take a deep breath and think again for the sake of all of us.

While the heartless Roosevelt Skerrit, who is ONLY concerned about staying in power, is discouraging Dominicans that are affected by Irma, in Caribbean islands against coming back home until things get better, the government of the BVI is ENCOURAGING non nationals to GO back to their countries till things get back on track http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/latestnews/BVI_official_suggests_immigrants_leave_hurricane-ravaged_country?profile=1373

BIG SHAME on you! SHAME, SHAME on this heartless PM Skerrit aka ‘The pretender”

And Roosevelt Skerrit says that our people should not come home but stay? Stay where, in hell?

He did not state that. Consider if there was an influx of them, who will feed and house them? Will you help in finding somewhere for them to stay and to feed them?
Can you recall what occurred after TS Erika struck Dominica?
