Castle Bruce draws up calendar of community events

Castle Bruce.jpg 2Castle Bruce today (Friday) announced its calendar of events – beginning tomorrow – for the community following a “Community of Love” meeting last week at which organizations and individuals put forward their plans for the next quarter. Coordinator Marian Jno-Finn said that such events will encourage members of the community “to be at one with each other”. The community has great support in and out of the village, she said, and so it is with this in mind we are doing this and involving everyone.”

Leading the way will be the Castle Bruce Scout Troupe which is embarking on a beach clean-up campaign tomorrow (Saturday) from 9am on the St David’s Bay, which will be followed by a bonfire and social activities by the Bay. Castle Bruce Tourism Association will join the Scouts by launching its project of planting coconut trees and indigenous plants along the bayside.

Chairwoman of the Village Council Angelica Gasper has outlined some of the Council’s plans for the year. The proper disposal and regular collection of garbage is a key focus. Other plans include the updating of the Council’s by-laws, the building and proper maintenance of a public facility and the collection of outstanding house rates.

Principal of the Primary School Jovin Joseph, along with the PTA, is to establish a library and book club for parents and students, and a parenting program where participants will graduate at the end of the school year. A Boy Awareness Week, Literacy Week, Valentine’s Day tea party, a talent show for boys and sports day is also planned.

The scouts are planning a kite-flying competition for Easter Monday on the beach while the Girl Guides will hold a “health talk” with their members on January 24. They will also visit the elderly and sick, observe “Thinking Day” and work with the Village Council to put up directional signs around the village.

Other events have been announced: Millennium Sound Systems plans a Family Fun Day on the beach on Easter Monday. Sunrise Farm Cottage will host a Valentine Dinner on February 14 in Richmond. There will be a concert on Easter Sunday in Guglu Flat while on East Monday Millennium Sound Systems has a Family Fun Day on the beach. The Castle Bruce Village Feast is in August.

Good job to all those involved in these initiatives! Castle Bruce has been stagnant in progress and lacking in community spirit for quite a while, but it is simply a joy to see many making an effort to restore glory to the village. A wind of change is starting to blow over my community once again. I hope that it blows over every aspect of the community, from the tallest tree on Morne Fraser down to the little boys and girls playing on the Sikwi Park. Every home in Castle Bruce should welcome the opportunity to better themselves and the village so that we can reclaim a sense of pride in where we come from. Leadership is key however. Leadership is not a position, but rather a decision that one makes to look out for the interest of others even if it means putting others before you. A pack or clan is successful when a leader can step up to protect, preserve, and improve the people he/she leads. When the people of Castle Bruce realize that their leaders are only looking out for themselves or their interests, the people will start to look out for themselves as well. If that happens, the community is not united. But, true leaders ‘eat last’. A leader first ensures that the people are ‘fed’ and then after proceeds to ‘eat’. So leadership is sacrifice. When people see that their leader cares and looks out for them then they will all return the favor and each person will look out for that leader. And a people with a common goal is never divided. So a message to the leaders: When you got your rank you made a decision to put us, the people, FIRST; Serve the people and they will serve you. LET’S GO CASTLE BRUCE!!! WHENEVER YOU COMING TO CASTLE BRUCE AND YOU HIT THE STRETCH, YOU SHOULD FEEL NO OTHER FEELING THAN HAPPINESS TO BE COMING HOME!!! CB WE LOVE YOU!!!

Your plans for the community and activities are to be complimented. It must have taken some great minds and a few discussions to put forth such an excellent plan.
This depicts love and unity on the part of all involved and those who will participate in the activities which encourage everyone to practice it throughout the year.
All villages should emulate you and organize similar activities for their community. It would also enable those who reside elsewhere to practice these godly virtues throughout the year. The result of this would be happy, peaceful and safe communities.
Good luck, success and have fun. Love is repaid by love alone. May God bless your effort.

Communities cooperate and work best when partisan politics is kept out and this is what we the Castle Bruce people want, All of us working as a team. See what partisan politics did to our reunion hall?

Castle Bruce is a gifted village and does not need representative to clean their own front and back yards.Other villages like St.Joseph doesn’t have these facilities therefore, good village Council is needed.Three cheers for the Castle

This is impressive and reflects the community spirit of the people of Castke Bruce.
The St Mark parish should emulate this practice instead of the lackadaisical attitude which seems to be the norm.
St Mark be proactive and develop initiatives which will contribute to promoting the parish.
We should be proud of our beautiful parish but we need to start selling it to others.
Stop asking what the government, UWP and others can do for the parish and start sharing what you are willing to do for the parish.
    Great work Castle Bruce .

Way to go C/Bruce!! Pride of the EASTERN DISTRICT. You continue to lead while others follow. Remember, you all kept the FIRST VILLAGE REUNION on Island and soon thereafter others followed. Now all you guys need is good government representation. But Change Must Come and that will be sooner rather than later.

    Assertive, NOT Agressive!

Pride of the Eastern District you say? If Castle Bruce is all we know then by all means stick with this statement. But in my views Castle Bruce has some of the most mentally oppressed people in Dominica. Apart from the medical clinic, this village has seen very little improvement as a matter of fact the last time I visited there the place looked dilapidated as if it has no representation at all. Castle Bruce people, honestly are you comfortable with the way the community is?… then again… your smaller neighboring communities make you look stupid. Anyways organisers continue trying your best to bring back the love in the community.
