Castle Bruce residents to tackle issues affecting their community

A view of a section of Castle Bruce

Residents of Castle Bruce will get an opportunity to discuss matters of concern that are affecting the community when they meet in a public discussion slated for November 17.

The event has been dubbed “Castle Bruce – Let’s talk.”

Organizers say it will give the community an opportunity to come together to discuss matters which affect it and to find solutions to them. They say the goal of the discussion is to elevate, motivate and encourage villagers to engage in positive and productive activity.

According to one of the organizers, Pastor Kent Wilshire of the Castle Bruce Pentecostal Church, many topics will be on the table for discussion. “We looking at the community now and thinking of what it used to be … it has changed. We are considering the violence among the youth, abandonment of agriculture, the people are divided, we have a drug problem, gangs and lawlessness. We are trying to curb these issues,” he said.

Wilshire told Dominica News Online that he hopes that a committee to tackle the issues, will be formed at the meeting. He also wants to see the formation of a sports group, drama group and other groups that encourage the youth to go back to agriculture and stay away from the drugs and violence, emerge from the meeting.

He added that this is one of many forums of that nature which will be held in Castle Bruce.

The Castle Bruce Primary school will be the venue for the discussion which is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.

Castle bruce is not going down the drain it is already down the drain. When the common man has given up his INDEPENDENCE he enjoyed thru farming for the sitting and beggeing attitude castle bruce can never be the same. When we as an agriculture base community keep putting a government that keeps killing agriculture in power Caslte Bruce can never change. When i see people who had to live in Roseau seeing misery just to get a lil education turn around and insult the efforts that they made to educate themselves and their children by voting a man who has never reached the step of a high school to represent them Castle Bruce can never change. When i see people who have lived in America, who know what development is, who know what effective representation come down to Castle Bruce to vote someone as incompetent as that Castle Bruce can never change. When someone has to find out if you are a Labour party supporter to let you get a lowly job to clean the village roads and drains Castle Bruce can never change. When the Parl Rep give some people a ride to go church and they consider that to be development Catle Bruce can never change. When we continue to accept the fact that our children go to high school for 5 years and graduate but still cannot read Castle Bruce can never change. For people to change they have to feel the need to change. As i see it Castle Bruce people are comfortable with how they are and as such they would not want to disturb their comfortable state. Most of the people from Castle Bruce who are successful had to leave Castle Bruce to make it. Let’s name theme nuh Abam Edwards, lambert Lewis, Isaac Baptiste, Zander Stephenson, John JnoFinn, Jacinta Bannis, Philsbert Alfred, Bernard Wiltshire,Miranda Manyo’s corner Alfred, Violet Roberts, Paula Carter, Ulric Esprit, Fr Vincent Esprit, Chief Envinronmental Health Officer Anthony Scotland,Mr Tatat Austrie, Augustus Austrie and many more so what does that say about Castle Bruce? I will leave the thinking for you the readers to do

YOU just a JACK FRUIT! How can Castle Bruce change when people like you insulting the intelligence of those that’s actually making an effort…. HOW MANY UNITED WORKERS PARTY SUPPORTERS AND LEADERS WENT to high school? In fact, the present leader of the UWP did not attend high school… If you want to assist in the development of Castle Bruce, then begin by suggesting the ways in which we can all improve ourselves or else SHUT YOUR CLAPPERS…

Pastor Dominica dying not just Castle Bruce. People have abandoned agriculture tous pas tout, the youth are idle throughout DOminica. So the problem is bigger than CB. The root cause is in the lack of honest and prudent governance. So pastor like Emile Depooter you guys are only attempting to change pillow case to cure a headache.

Good innitiative folks! Hope this will not be a another talk shop and so forth… Knowing the kind of poloticians and goovernment going on there, welll worries and more worries!Imagine the whole eastern and south eastern part of Dominica is red now and hardly anything is being done for these folks. When one drives around the place its like a green massive area thats abandoned and things are just happening. Or if anything is happening knwo its nothing compared to the other parts of Dominica. Check list: Roads? Health facilities? Schools? Youth Dev? Educational development? Sports? Look at the playin fields not one deserves the name? This Huge steel frame building, which had potential but is indeed a mess? Agriculture? Drug and substance abuse? Transportation? infrastructure and superstructure? And please try to give the varuious ministries a mark over 10 based on per4formance?
One does wish the CB community all the best in this regard, knowing how life for folks on this part of Dominica can be trying. Its like sometimes Dominica got three cardinal points: NORTH, south and West- in bold font for emphasis sake.
Folks from the east and south east should wait on them smart men and smart women next election……
Best of luck to Johno, but unfortunely he is not ffrom the south, north and west. He may not be able to raw as does the other big wigs in the government. He is a goood man, but perhaps he is only programmed to say yes yes yes and when he does bring up his issues, they are not taken as seriously as would be the case of the others.

For a long time it seemed liked persons had repudiated the issues that engulfs the community. Hats off to the organizers. I really hope that the issues will not just be examined on the surface. Personally i feel we need to target more cause tho than the effects. Don’t examining the situations look to where it stems from. Once the roots are Targeted control and change can be exercised. Also what is put into the roots determines the out put. Look at what is being feed into our community at a ground level foundations maybe then the source of the negative outputs seen today will be targeted. Prevention always better than cure..ways to protect the upcoming that have not yet deviated so that the community can be steered in a different path. All these things need to be looked at.

I love the CB area! I think law enforcements should take part in this initiative, too; they shouldn’t just be about arresting people! They should also have either weekly or monthly crime prevention meetings w/ the community. It will surely give them work to do, instead of lounging around, shirts off, drinking rum, and using the police transport to chase women!

That’s a very good initiative on your part Pastor Kent. Let’s hope the villagers turn out in large numbers to discuss issues in a civil manner (I know some of them already). Now is not the time to be biased and kiss ass, let’s face the issue dead on. Mayb u should consider running for election the next time around. we need a vehement, back-boned parl-rep, one who has community development at the front burner. Cudos. I love you Jono but u need to grow a backbone.

Johno is a good man but in Dca parl-reps and ministers have no say. Their positions are simly symbolic/ ceremonial. It’s only the “anointed” one who can say what, when and where things can happen. But god is good all the time and all the time god is good especially in C/Bruce.

Sometime people need to do things for themselves. The Parl Rep has his task already cut out for him , if we don’t take a look at ourselves then nothing he does will be effective. He is involved in this effort but he wants us to take the lead – our lack of self and understanding is making his task very difficult because most persons feels he should be the one to fix all of us – it is far deeper than this (politics), we want our lives to be above politics.

      November 15, 2012

The Parl Rep is involved in this meeting – But it is very much ok for concern citizens to get up an do something positive. When that happen it shows that we are mature enough to do handle our own affair without being dependent on politicians. We must change our mentality and grow up.

I full support and applaud Pastor Kent for taking this initiative and i pray more of us will do the same. It is time to take charge of our lives and destiny and not leave up to others.

This is good. Community members identifying and finding or at least attempting to fnd solutions to community problems.

ONE POINT i WANT TO STRESS: VERY FEW POPLE GO BACK TO ANYTHING. pEOPLE GO FORWARD. iF WE TRULY WANT YOUTH TO ENGAGE IN AGRICULTURE, WE MUST EMPOWER THEM WITH NEW AND INNOVATIVE MODERN METHODS. nOT THE SAME OLE SAME OLE. THEY WILL NEVER GO TO THAT.

The reunion centre is an eyesore? What can the community do? Plus can the committee find a way to get the reunion committee to pay me the moneys owed for building the toilets on the playing field?

    Great initiative!

STOP depending on those parasitic politicians and PLEASE don’t let them hijack this great initiative. C/Bruce have produced great men/ women like John Jno. Finn, Clement Constance (deceased), Mev Vigilante, Teacher Megs and Teacher Zooking (lol) and even the great PAPPY Baptiste but lately all seems hopeless as drugs and political intolerance have taken their toll on such a once brilliant community. Men like Teacher Ahday, Jeanbar Bannis, Preston Bannis, Johnson Thomas and Stafford Alfred would be turning in their graves to see the condition of their beloved community.

    Assertive, NOT Agressive! 8)

      Without cutting your thunder, I will add;
Teacher Delna – Years of selfless service.
Endy – Rural Constable and settler of disputes. Maddo/Doc – pharmacist and medical advisor.
Ilo (deceased) – self-made midwife. She made house calls and delivered babies.

They all played their part. We had a village raising a child back then.
