General Manger of Central Co-operative Credit Union (CCCU), Gloria Watson-Jean Pierre along with fellow members of staff on Saturday September 18, 2015 made a donation of cleaning supplies valued in excess of EC$2,000 to the residents of Coulibistrie who were heavily impacted by the passing of Tropical Storm Erika.

The supplies including mops, and mop buckets, bass brooms, dust pans, disinfectant and bleach among other cleaning items was presented to the Pastor of the Coulibistrie Gospel Mission, Jonathan George and Brenda George.

The items were purchased by the employees of the Central Co-operative Credit Union who pooled together their personal resources. The board of directors finding this a wonderful gesture matched the amount contributed by the employees, making the donation a more impressive one.

In handing over the items, Gloria Watson-Jean Pierre told Pastor George and his wife that “while most of the employees were not impacted by Tropical Storm Erika, we are aware of the hardship that the passing of this storm have inflicted on the people of Coulibistrie and Dominica and wanted to play their part in the relief efforts and returning a community to a state of normalcy”

This is the second presentation that the society has made to the Tropical Storm Erika relief efforts. On September 2, 2015 Central Co-operative Credit Union as a corporate citizen, donated EC$50,000.00 to the Government of Dominica Erika Relief Fund account at NBD to assist with disaster relief efforts.

Central Co-operative Credit Union remains committed to ensuring the well being of its members, and that of the people of Dominica.

The work in the village has just started. Every house has mud and sand to be removed one spade or shovel at a time. More volunteers are needed to help with the physical work. Come down ready to sweat.
