Charitable organizations benefit from President’s Charities Foundation

A number of charitable organizations in Dominica have benefited from proceeds raised during the President’s Charities Foundation fundraising dinner held at the Fort Young Hotel on Saturday, July 16, 2016.

The organizations are the Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DAPD), St Jerome’s Ministry, Dominica Council on Aging, R.E.A.C.H, House of Hope, St Vincent De Paul Society, Roving Caregivers Programme, St Ann’s Social Centre, Operation Youth Quake and Grotto Home for the Homeless.

President of Dominica His Excellency, Charles Savarin, who was speaking at the handing over ceremony held at the State House on Monday, said this year the gross receipt for the President’s Charities Foundation Fundraising dinner was $84,476.42.

 

The President, “This year the gross receipts for the President’s Charities Foundation Fund-Raising Dinner was $84,476.42. Total expenditure stood at $32,807.99 thus realizing a surplus of $51,668.43. From this surplus, $38,500.00 will be distributed among 17 charitable organizations.”

He went on to say that $5,000 has been forwarded to the Office of Disaster Management to go towards the Haiti Relief Effort.

“The balance will go towards the hosting of the President’s Charities Foundation Annual Christmas Party for disadvantaged children between the ages of 5 to 12 and this year it will be held in the north-east, at the North East Comprehensive School,” the President explained.

He stated further that today’s presentation ceremony would not be possible without the continued support of sponsors, contributors, and patrons of the President’s Charities Foundation fundraising dinner.

    In Summary this a very great gesture..this is an annual event ,we just have to support this worthy cause..The President has served Dominica with great extinction.He was a teacher at the Dominica Grammar School ,then move on to greater things…Thanks His Excellency C.A, Savarin for for valuable to Dominica..I`m giving you flowers while you`re alive…A true son of Portsmouth…Very intelligently,outspoken,brilliant orator and handle the patois fluently …..I Love…..

        Yes, but it is getting embarrassing. You spending $33,000 for a dinner to raise $52,000 but then only distribute $38,500. What happen to rest of the money, $11.500? Next time I suggest you all bring your own food and let all the proceeds go to the needy. The Grotto could do, with that money to finish it for, example. And if the President really wants to be generous he could give one month of his salary for the poor. I’m sure he will not live any worse if he does that. Real charity always comes from one’s own pocket.
