Abraham said the workshop is capacity strengthening exercise which will enhance Dominica’s representation in CODEX

A two-day training workshop geared at building the capacity of the National Codex Committee members ends here today, March 18.

The workshop, which is supported by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), is being held at the Fort Young Hotel.

CODEX is an international body which deals with standards for food and food safety.

Dominica has been a member of CODEX since 1970 and the Bureau of Standards became the National CODEX contact point in 2000.

“What we are doing here at this workshop is building the capacity of the National Codex Committee members…,” Technical Officer at the Dominica Bureau of Standards (DBOS), Mara Abraham told the media. “In participating in Codex activity, there are a number of documents that have to be developed, Dominica’s position has to be presented at those committees.”

She continued, “What we want to do is to be able to analyze those documents effectively and critically to be able to provide the best representation and to have Dominica benefit the most from this participation.”

According to Abraham part of the objectives of the workshop  include: strengthening the capacity of the National Codex Contact Point/ Secretariat to effectively coordinate the activities of Codex on a national level and strengthening the capacity of the members of the National Codex Committee and sub-committees to effectively participate in the work of codex.

Facilitators of the workshop are experts from Codex contact points in Coasta Rica and Chile

A luncheon is expected to be held on Friday, March 18 with the various policy makers to sensitize them on what is happening within codex as well as to get the support that the committee require.

You can tell how ignorant people are in this country that think that they are educated. Tiey are being duped by CODEX. CODEX is about giving the pharmaceutical companies full control of anything that they want to take control of that you use for your health, e.g. vitamins, herbs, homeopathics, etc. , taking it away from availability to the consumer. You will have to see a doctor or get a prescription to get any vitamins or herbs and it will cost you..
WAKE UP. Throw CODEX out. They especially prey on the 3rd world countries and ignorance of what they are really about..
