Cyril Volney gets marching orders

Volney

The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) has fired its recently appointed Chief Executive Officer Cyril Volney.

Information reaching DNO confirms that Volney has been given his marching orders, but so far the reason for his being sacked has not been made public.

Following his appointment in February Volney told Dominica News Online that the DAIC was seeking to expand its membership and put its house in order.

“We have both to consolidate our existing membership, and have a membership drive for new members,” he told DNO at the time.

The DAIC official had also said that enhancing productivity in the private sector would also be focused on by the newly put in place executive.

Cyril Volney  replaced Achille Chris Joseph as the CEO of the association at the organisation’s AMG.

Joseph held that position for the past five and a half years before being replaced by Volney.

It’s interesting that de dollar minister did not want that position too, maybe he doesn’t want to sit in an office.

Archille was a yes yes person, this is why he survived 5 years, but business in Dominica is being run by the Easternians, massa day cyan done.

While one must be careful about statements that might appear to be dancing on Volney’s grave, a practice that is not without precedent in Dominica, I have to be honest and say that I am not the least surprised. The reason is that I find the gentleman uniquely out of touch with the country and his on line ramblings on some Diaspora blogs make me wonder about his intellectual moorings. He seems to use words rather liberally, often without rational coherence or logical construction.
Volney, in short, seems to be inhabiting a world far removed from Dominica. My surprise was not that his assignment with the DAIC was ended abruptly, but that it was initiated in the first place. A classic case of a wrong hire. At least the directors of the DAIC had the fortitude to cut their losses short.

Parry mention productivity in the public sector and his contract is hanging in the wind ; Volney mention productivity in the private sector and now he has to revert to singing OH CANADA instead of OH LABOR OH LABOR SKERRO HAS BLESS THEE.

Wow!! Poor Cyril! Poor the DAIC too. I think Cyril had very good intentions but he went wrong when he agreed to be the featured speaker at the Chamber’s AGM back in February. The DAIC is a membership organisation and the members decide what is priority and what is not. It was pure folly on Cyril’s part to come to the AGM and tell the members what he was going to focus on and what he was going to discard. That was not for him to decide. He should have allowed the membership to tell him what their priorities were and not think he, as a returning Dominican, knew the areas to focus on.

Volney please come report to us on the citizen’s forum we are awaiting your explanation. Does it have anything to do with the Chinese commercial dominance? Volney you think you were walking into a smooth operating system? All that corruption which you were defending on the citizens forum now the same enterprise which you cherished put you out to dry like a balaw.
