BROOKLYN, NY – The Dominica Association of Seventh-day Adventists in the U.S. (DASUS) will commemorate its tenth anniversary and the 36th Anniversary of Dominica’s Independence with a Dominica Day Church Service on Saturday, 8 November 2014 at the Bethany Seventh-day Adventist Church, 962 Prospect Avenue, Westbury, New York.
Dominica Day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with Sabbath School. Divine Service, the main worship program, will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Fellowship Lunch. The celebration will continue with an Advent Youth (AY) Program at 3:30 p.m. and culminate with a Cultural Reception at 5:30 p.m.
The featured speaker for Dominica Day is Dion T. Harrigan, PhD, pastor of the Bethany Seventh-day Adventist Church. Dr. Harrigan, whose mother is a native of Dominica, is also a professor of Education and the director of the Center for the Advancement of Faith, Ethics, and Learning (CAFEL) at Nyack College in New York.
Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica; His Excellency Hubert John Charles, Dominica’s Ambassador to the United States of America (USA); and Mrs. Barbara Dailey Consul General of the Commonwealth of Dominica have been invited to Dominica Day.
Dignitaries from the New York area have also been asked to attend.
“DASUS was formed about 10 years ago to bring Seventh-day Adventist Dominicans together to embrace their faith and heritage,” said Beryl R. Williams, president and founder. “We are also focusing on strengthening formal ties with our church family at home in order to make meaningful contributions to select projects.”
Seventh-day Adventist Dominicans throughout the USA, the United States Virgin Islands, and Canada are invited to Dominica Day.
A cordial invitation is also extended to family, friends, and loved ones of all faiths and nationalities.
“We look forward to a wonderful, memorable day of blessing, fellowship and cultural celebration,” Ms. Williams said.

Disgusting! God’s Sabbath is to give glory to him not to promote culture or another activity. I long to see the day when Seventh Day Adventist will get back to the basics.
What would the basics be, pray tell? Legalistic mumbo-jumbo? The basics about salvation would be more of a blessing, don’t you think? How about preaching God’s salvation by grace through faith instead of trying hard to keep laws that were not meant for us, relying on our own efforts? How about allowing wanting to share the good news of salvation at every opportunity, especially wanting salvation or at least a chance at it for the people we care most about–our countrymen? Why is it that some of us are stuck in a rut lost in translation somewhere 2000 or so years aback, wanting to be a people we are not (Jews)? How about being happy for salvation for us who were born Gentile but given salvation through God’s death on Calvary. There is no inopportune occasion for that! And why must you, a christian, be so angry in your response? Would that be God’s way or the legaslistic “Adventist” way?
The organization DASUS was not founded by Beryl Williams. Instead, a contingent of Dominican Adventists in and around NY and CT came together with the ideas as well as the name. Those who attended the first couple of Dominica Days are well aware that although Beryl did participate, the idea stemmed from a collaboration between the Bellots, Manns and Rightons in and around the NY and CT Adventist circles and invitations were extended to include people like Brian Scotland, Corinthia James, Jane James and Lester (Ezekiel) Joseph as well as Beryl’s family–the Williams. Beryl was voted in as President sometime later.
That list should include Laureen Bedneau and some others from Sharon SDA Church in the Bronx
