Delays, baggage loss to be a thing of the past – LIAT

Edwards

The issues of passenger delays and baggage loss will be a thing of the past, according to LIAT executives.

“All those things will go away,” said Wilbur Edwards, LIAT’s director of ground operations, Cargo and Quikpak, as he referred to the recently approved night landing and takeoff clearances received by the island some time ago, as well as LIAT’s own aircraft improvement initiatives.

“We have flights that leave Antigua and when they arrive around the Dominican airspace they cannot land because of weather and sunset limitations and so forth,” he told reporters at a press meeting yesterday.

With night landing in place, Edwards assured that “a lot of the problems experienced here in Dominica will just disappear”, while noting that the airline’s new cargo freighter plane would be used as a back up for baggage.

“We are installing additional equipment on our fleet to allow us to take more weight so we will be able to take more baggage,” the operations manager said.

In the context of Dominica, he said these improvements would eliminate “all the frustrations that you have”.

    @LIKEN:

No you are the one who needs to grow up! What happen LIAT giving you a share of their profits or you just too damn biased???!!!

This is not a Dominica problem. This is a LIAT problem! When I travel with American Airlines my bags arrive with me…and they use the same old Melville Hall Airport!

Have you ever travelled for 2 weeks, left your destination to come back home at the end of your stay, and still not received your bags??? When it happens to you, you will respond to my comment. In the meantime shut up!!!

I have no negative comments, I’m glad to know that LIAT has taken Dominica at heart by looking into transporting our produce.I never had any problems to talk about as i’ve been scorned by different Airlines and when you travel very often, you will come to realise that all Airlines follow the same trend.

An advise to LIAT ‘” There are alot of scorned people out there who are looking to see you fail especially for us Dominicans, try to prove them wrong”

I have faith in your company , a true caribbean investment and business, God Bless you.

@Coco Seche: Your comments are soo dry as your name suggest, I am a proud Customer of LIAT and even a passenger who never supported Caribbean Star. That Airline was ripping of caribbean people to send our money to the states. I support all caribbean businesses.

I take it that you must be an ex employee of Caribbean Star of probably the same guy who is in prison for charges of money laundering and fraud, whats his name again? Alan Stanford.

Or your man or woman used to give you rebate tickets on Caribbean Star to travel for free.

Have you ever wondered why they always used LIAT Aircrafts for any flight worthy certification in the Region and not a Caribbean Star Aircraft? it’s just simple, THE PLANES WERE NOT GOOD.
And you guys were flying them at a risk.

Caribbean People are the ones who put the Airline out of Business, Praise God LIAT did not buy into Stanford when he wanted the Airline.

@Paul: Paul, LIAT dosen’t fly to Switzerland, did you tell LIAT where to send the bags? because LIAT sent my bags straight to my home in London last year and I received it the very next day. Suppose on your return, the Airline from Switzerland delayed your baggage, what would you say? I guess that if they had to send your bags to Dominica then it will go to Dominica because there is only one functional Airport on Dominica.

Human error is found everywhere and I know that you’re not perfect, I have observed LIAT for the past 6 months in trvaelling with them and they have been cleaning up their act. My bags arrived ontime, my flights were on time to Dominica and now i’m seeing that htey have interest to do business with Dominica.

This is our National Airline and I know that will still operate in Dominica whether dire circumstances.

Do you ever make mistakes, if not then probably you are GOD.

I will provide a test case. I left Dominica on August 12th on LIAT headed for Switzerland. Five days later, my bags arrived in the wrong city in Switzerland. Now, I am returning to Dominica on Saturday, September 11th. I am eager to see if our bags arrive with us!

@LIKEN: THE ONLY REASON LIAT SURVIVED THE IMPACT OF CARIBBEAN STAR IS DUE TO THE PROTECTION GIVEN TO LIAT BY THE GOVERNMENT.

IF LIAT WAS OBLIGATED TO PAY ITS LANDING FEES ( WHICH ARE IN THE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ) AS WAS DEMANDED FROM THE GOVERNMENT TO CARIBBEAN STAR (ON A MONTHLY BASIS )? THEN LIAT WOULD HAVE CLEAN UP ITS ACT ALREADY.

THEY WOULD HAVE EIGHTER CLOSED UP SHOP OR FORCED TO IMPROVE AND TREAT THE DOMINICAN PASSENGER LIKE THEY WOULD A BARBADIAN OR ANTIGUAN NATIONAL!

SO WHEN YOU STAND HERE DEFENDING LIAT, I TAKE IT THAT YOU ARE EITHER :
    1. NOT A REGULAR TRAVELLER
    2. A LIAT EMPLOYEE THAT IS AFRAID OF LOSING HIS JOB
    3. OR JUST SOMEONE THAT HAS NO IDEA OF WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.

IF I HAD TO PICK FROM THE LIST I WOULD CHOOSE ………………..NUMBER 2, ……OR MAYBE ALL 3.

We Dominicans think that we have all the problems in the world, we need to travel with other carriers to see that not only LIAT is worst. We should be glad to see that LIAT is showing interest in Dominica for once mainly to uplift our CARGO, BAGGAGE and night landings. LIAT is Dominica’s National Airline and we should support their initiative to make Dominica accessible.

@wey-hey…: Dude, don’t you know that the late flight will bring remaining Dominica bags to Dominica and you wont have to wait long to get them? You have a grudge or something? The Airline has improved but Dominica needs to improve it’s Airport and gget with the programme to have the resources to accomodate these services. Too long Dominica has regressed the services of LIAT with the early closure of Airports. No wonder Dominicans are the only ones who have problems with LIAT. yOU GUYS NEED TO GROW UP.

Aighty cool. Well providing LIAT is able to maintain its word in terms of improved baggage transport efficiency, the following meanings for the word LIAT ie Luggage In Another Town or Luggage In Another Terminal could be discontinued.

I can only hope and dream that it would be that simple
and it has nothing to do with being negative
BUT EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER

when Caribbean star was alive LIAT had competition and things were better but since they’ve gone we’ve gotten new policies which have seen prices go up and service quality disappear. If a dog biting you every time you pet it regardless of what somebody tell you. You going and try and pet the dog? LIAT accustomed with bad service so until I see an improvement they not getting any benefit of the doubt because they have proved time and time again that they do not deserve it!!!

Pleeeeeeeaaaasssseee!!!!!!!!!! We are not that stupid LIAT! What you need is a little competition, overhaul of company strategy and new management!

Why can’t we be positive for once and give LIAT a chance to prove themselves.I say well done to LIAT and the Government of Dominica for doing what is needed to bring night landing to Dominica. It is the country that stands most to benefit if things are done properly.Definetly looking forward to my first night time flight from and into Melville Hall

We have to applaud LIAT for their efforts in improving the system. We complain that LIAT means leave island anytime. Now that they are make the effort to solve most of our air problems, we are still complaining. We human beings really CANNOT BE PLEASED. We are negative about every and anything. At least give LIAT a chance and see if the new system works then we can complain.

@shatta: in jus 5 words nothing warranted u to say “no homo” but u wrote it from style,,,,, let us stop that americanized non sense nah,,, if u said… “yah dat pardna irie,, he a cool dude I LIKE HIM 4 REAL” then u say “no homo” to show that u did not mean to like him in no kind of physical or sensual attraction,,,, but i jus stay away from saying it altogether,,,

now liat knows that there’s no way problems will not happen believe me is now bags gonna get lost,,,, if a passenger lost a bag would they be willing to go to court to get sued hhhhmmm remember LIAT has made claim that no bags can or will be lost in the future…..
