Delices community water problems to be addressed

Parliamentary Representative for Delices Petter St Jean says a new $3M water supply for the community will enhance the lives of the residents and improve their standard of living, since they have waited 15 years for this development.

St Jean told the groundbreaking ceremony for the project moments ago, that the situation has been haunting Dominica for more than 15 years, yet no other government sought to initiate the project.

“This government has heard the plea of the people and we have provided the necessary fund for the construction of the Delices water system. Delices and the south east have been left in the shadows of the whole development process in Dominica,” he said.

He said the new system will economically improve the life of  residents.

“They will have more time for economic activity, farmers can engage in productive enterprises such as vegetable production …you will have more
time on your hand. The provision of this water system signals a new day for the people of Delices,” St Jean said.

He noted that the toloma farmers can now take production to “the next level” with the constant water supply.

“To improve quality of their products, farmers could use the new system to enhance well being. The new system will also ensure continuous water supply to Delices,” he said.

Meantime St. Jean said when completed, the project will help alleviate the plight of the people, particularly the senior citizens, single mothers and students.

“It will enhance the health of our people. This will ensure reduction in incidents of water borne diseases. We will enjoy a fuller and healthier life. We must raise our standards of living,” he added.

He said in this new development, it is imperative that sound conservation practices are practiced in order to ensure adequate and continuous supply of water.

“We need to avoid rampant felling of trees as this impact negatively on water table … farmers needs to ensure prudence and discretion in farming
practices. We must keep our water clean and avoid disposing garbage in our rivers, leaving our taps open and abusing the stand pipes for washing of
vehicles. If there is one community who knows what it is to go without water, Delices is that community,” he said.

The ground-breaking ceremony is currently ongoing at Delices and DNO will bring you more from that ceremony later.

Minister Reginald Austrie,  in delivering remarks, told the residents that the project will begin as of tomorrow morning.

PETER ADMITS THAT THE PRESENT 15 YEAR TERM GOVERNMENT IGNORED THE PEOPLE OF THE SOUTH EAST BECAUSE THEY VOTED THE OTHER PARTY IN THE PAST. GOOD OBSERVATION PETER.

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO HEAR ABOUT PROJECT THAT WILL BE ABLE TO TO PROVIDE LONG TERM EMPLYMENT FOR THE MASSES. THIS IS THE FASTEST WAY TO ELEVATE POVERTY. I AGREE THAT PIPE BORN WATER IS ESSENTIAL. THE PEOPLE OF DELICES DO NOT SUFFER FROM WATER BORN ILLNESSES. SOMETIMES I WONDER WHO WRITES THE SPEECHES FOR THESE POLITICIANS.

And all houses being built today or yesterday in Delices and by extension Dominica on a whole should have both toilet and shower facilities included. For those you can’t afford these amenities, the government should build public conveniences in these villages which should include both flushed toilet rooms and showers to be run by a caretaker, and keep the environment and your surroundings clean and green which makes for a healthy Dominica.
