Digicel Dominica has contributed EC$20,000 to the Stardom Calypso Tent for the 2016 Carnival season.
The cheque was presented to Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Dominica Calypso Association, Davidson ‘Observer’ Victor at the official launching ceremony of the Stardom Calypso Tent held at the Calypso House in Bath Estate on Wednesday.
“We are very pleased to partner with the stardom committee once again for yet another exciting year contributing over EC$20,000 to help to add the thrill of the 2016 Stardom Calypso Tent,”Digicel Marketing Executive, Calvia Timothy said while addressing the launching ceremony.
According to her, Digicel is a major supporter of Carnival and plays a significant role during this season to bring the ever popular Stardom Calypso Tent to Carnival lovers, customers and Dominicans and, by extension, visitors to the nature island.
She stated further that organizers have been working hard to ensure that the patrons of the event will continue and be contented with the opening of the event on Saturday, 2nd January.
“As the headline sponsors of the Stardom Calypso Tent we at Digicel would like to encourage you to come to support the participants, the veterans and the upcoming calypsonians and to enjoy the great calypso music,” Timothy stated.
Meantime Victor, who on behalf of the Calypso Association thanked Digicel for their contribution, said Stardom Calypso Tent has been in existence for well over 40 years, but has stopped and re-emerged in 1991.
He said since the re-emergence, Stardom Tent has been in existence for about 26 years and every year the organizers have been able to put on a production for the Carnival, which have been growing from strength to strength.
Newcomers to Stardom Calypso Tent are Narrin ‘Trendsetter’ Murphy, Janae Jackson, and Murphy ‘Sye’ Jno Jules.
Victor revealed that a new inclusion has been added to the 2016 calypso tent dubbed, “Bouyon meets Calypso”.
Other programs for Stardom during the season include a Royalty Night, where all the queens of the different pageantry will be invited to make an appearance, the Tug of War, Road March and punch and the King of the Tent.
He urged the public to turn out in large numbers to support the event.
Over 30 calypsonians are set to perform at the event on Saturday 2nd, January 2016, scheduled to take place at the Sisserou Hotel from 8:30 pm.
