President of the Dominica National Council on Women (DNCW) Josephine Dublin-Prince says Dominicans have failed to appreciate the struggles of women of the past.
March 08, 2010 will be commemorated as International Women’s Day, and the DNCW and the Women’s Bureau have planned two major activities.
Prince says the first activity will take the form of a panel discussion by secondary school students, under the theme: “This History of the Women’s Movement, Lessons for Young Women Today”.
“We want to say to them that they need to value their womanhood and appreciate the fact that women play a pivotal role in the socio-economic and political life of Dominica,” she said.
The other activity will take place at the Arawak House of Culture, where dignitaries will give addresses, while women give various testimonies.
These testimonies are expected to be done in song and poetry.
“We are reminded of the struggles our Haitian sisters are going through, as we celebrate that day. We are remembering them and the two from the women’s movement in particularly, who died during the earthquake,” she said.
The public is advised to wear pink on Monday.
DNO CORRESPONDENT.
many women in this country have forgotten the struggle of women in the past. share with your children the hardship that brought you all thus far!
its sad to now see, so many young women no longer take the time to bring up their children in the way that is right. the children are going astray.
but where are the fathers to give the women support in bringing up the kids?
women. the same error have been made by you over and over again. we cant expect a different result by doing the same thing?
band your waist. put god first, and work to maintain your children. let the men see that you are strong and independant, especially when they leave you with their kids to look after. be wise next time
take care of your daughters. dont put your hand in fire for boyfriends and the like, above your kids.
dont prostitiute yourself. hold your head up high. set standards, be a woman of purpose.
remember what you sow is what you will reap.
and dont for one minute think you can be a player and beat men at it. it was never your game to start with…
love yourselves and be satisfied with small mercies.

More power to women! People please educate yourselves on the struggles of women everywhere. We have rights now that were fought for and won by mothers, grand mothers and others and we need to acknowledge and appreciate their effort. The struggle is not yet over so Together We Must Continue !
Please women, time has changed, what rights are you all fighting for in d/ca. You all are doing better than men in key areas of life, women achievement is now enviable by men in Dominica. Please, we are not in Iraq or Afghanistan. Instead of addressing the obvious issues such that women play a vital role in d/ca. Why dont u all focus on the issue of children going astray, particularly the underachievement of boys……
