DNCW in need of financial rescue

The association which has been in the forefront advocating for the rights of women in Dominica and which has been extremely vocal on several critical issues that women face daily, is in dire need of financial rescue.

Speaking at the 26th annual general meeting of the Dominica National Council of Women (DNCW), held at the Dominica Public Service Union (PSU) building on Monday, DNCW president, Vanya David, described the council’s financial position as severe.

“The DNCW has faced several challenges. We have inherited over the past years many challenges of finance with which we continue to struggle,” she said. “This is a severe financial crisis for us, as the treasurer will report later, we have very little money but what is interesting, is that most people believe that DNCW has some funding and is getting some funding somewhere that we can give out. No, it’s not a fact. The DNCW is getting no money from nowhere except for the fund raising that we do”, she stated.

David disclosed that of late, the Methodist Church has partnered with the DNCW to pay half of their rent but wondered how long this will last.

“We are down to two committee members (with) much to be done now, our years of accumulating, everything including what we need to prioritize. When we look at our fund raising, this is interesting to say that we increased, and improved our public perception of the DNCW.

We have found a safe way of doing so…obviously we want to say we need you, your ideas, your money, your time, your expertise to help DNCW become what it’s supposed to be. A voice for women, all the women in Dominica, and that means most of you.

David also recognized past president,  Josephine Dublin-Prince, for stepping in to assist when both she (David) and the organization’s first vice-president were ill and unable to perform their duties.

David said that the funding that the council receives, is for projects.

“But the project doesn’t cover administration, and so for example we have a UN project the Agricultural women’s movement, which would cover things like anything to do with the farms and the onion seeds …but the funding to cover administration, the telephone cost, coming from Roseau to meet them in the north east, we do not have that kind of funding for it,” she pointed out.

She said the government is not assisting the DNCW at this time but after several approaches by the organization, some effort is being made this year.

“We survive voluntarily… we have approached them (Government) several times, however this year they have sent in the project that they are working on to assist somebody to or to pay somebody to work …in the organization, they have contacted us on that basis, I hope it go through” she said.

The AGM was held under the theme “ Empowering Dominican Women”.

Activities include an open forum, a panel discussion on human rights and gender based violence. The meeting is expected to end at 5 pm today.

Oh Lord, please close down this feminist excuse for an association. Feminism is one of the most disgraceful ideologies that has ever hit the world.

These women “organizations” are filled with a set of lesbians and angry bitter women!

What type of organization is this? Those organizations (worldwide) are too many and are a waste of time, effort and money.
Empowering women? This should commence at home, training and in the schools.
Women must stand up for themselves. They should know the difference of right from wrong, how to conduct themselves and who to associate with to avoid all those issues which this organization feels it is responsible for.
Men must also be trained on how to treat women and to love and respect them.
Women who were employed in businesses in Dominica in the past faired very well and I am certain the same applies today.
What is wrong with those women of today that they need to be empowered? My view is, some of those organizations should be closed.
No discrimination here. I have given this a thought. My view is, some of those organizations are redundant and should be closed.

thanks to those who volunteer. You think is today DNCW was promised subvention? Governments come and go. 26 years and every year they attend the AGMs you know with promises.I can name all of of them. Ms David congratulations and lets hope that Dominican Women will make pledges either monthly or annually or even a onetime amount to save this organization. BRAVO DNCW

Maybe you’re trying to do to much with the very little that you have. I understand the importance of defending women’s right, but work with what you have untill such time when you’re able to meet all your commitments, and as a matter of fact you should be ashame to say the this organization is suffering due to lack of funds, and in your tone you are seeking to blame the government while there are so many rich women in Dominica and abroad. what I’m trying to say is just simple if you women are not interested in your own rganization, then who else will. Think about it.

Government should NOT be expected to fund everything. As great as the mission of the DNCW might be, the number one business of any business is to remain in business. Get a grant writer … apply for funding from all these NGOs and international donors … add a percentage for administrative fee … organize a major annual fund raiser … etc., etc.

When the rain it never fall on one man’s house. So much things to ay right now so much things to say.
Never forget no wy they crucify Jesus Christ
Never forget no way they sold marcus for rice

Never Forget who you are and where you stand in the struggle. For if we all shove our heads in the sand just to avoid dealing with reality the chicken come home to roost and there is nothing we can do.
