DNO POLL(final result): Readers support gay cruise tourism

A Dominica News Online poll is showing that the majority of readers favor gay cruise tourism.

The poll, which has been running for over a week, asked readers whether or not Dominica should welcome gay cruise passengers.

This follows the furore created when two gay men were arrested last week for reportedly having sex on a cruise ship in full view of onlookers.

A total of 3,777 readers participated in the poll.

2,644 (71 percent) voted yes, 1,022 (27 percent) voted no and 91 readers (2 percent voted not sure)

DNO’s poll is not a scientific one.

You people sure have antiquated hypocritical way of thinking. You’ll revel in your own sins – fornication, adultery – but condemn others for theirs. You claim to hate the sin, but not the sinner and think that 10 years imprisonment is justified.
If you all are really so bent on serving God, on truth, on justice, on fairness, on equity… why don’t you condemn fornication and adultery as well. Why not have 10 years or more for those sins? Because YOU think they are natural simply because they are more common place and YOU enjoy them? God certainly didn’t think so. He condemns it as punishable by death and mentioned adultery over 50 times in his book, and fornication over 30.
If you’re so bent on pleasing God, why don’t you start by jailing every fornicator on island.

I was embarrass the following morning after the incident, to be a Dominican. My co-workers confronted me about the story and mentioned about the hatred my country has toward gay people. Dominica is now known for the island that is bias against gays. What a shame! It is time to put an end to such ignorance. We live in a world where everyone has a right to their lifestyle of choice. I condemn their actions if there was any indecent exposure but not their personal preference. Dominicans it is time to be more open-minded and non-discriminatory. We will never get any where with such attitude.

    • April 1, 2012

I am glad you codemn those actions. But at the same time you are blowing it out of porportion.
I saw the naked and the one at the back was pumping. The older man was the aggressor. The younger man was the recepient. I do not know whether the man wore a condom. But that would not be necessary for pregnancy purposes.

It is alarming that the church in Dominica is (still)silent! To whom much is given, much is required!

    • Justice and truth
      March 30, 2012

I have previously stated that the Church is praying for this situation and other situations in DA. The Church is allowing the government, the Police to handle the situation. There is not much, if nothing at all they can say on this matter. It appears that they are silent but they are not silent in prayers. Are you aware of the Serenity Prayer?

O God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change
Courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference. Amen!

Dominica is a small country. The Church is praying for all sinners. God knows there are many of them in the world.
Recently I listed the major sins in the world and they are many. If you give it a thought, you should have an idea what they are. I wonder how God feels? We are to pray for everyone.

I can never believe this DNO poll! Why? Sometimes, when I click on the green or red thumbs to “Like” or “Dislike” an article, instead of adding 1 to the total it sometimes adds 2 or even 3 or more, based on which direction the author wants your opinion to shift for a particular comment.

Dominicans don’t support homosexuality; if you don’t believe me, take a real survey on the streets of Dominica.

I think that everyone should be treated equally, no matter what their sexual preference is. As long as they respect the rules of the country,i do not think that there should be a problem in welcoming them. I do not condone homosexuality but,why should anyone decide who is best for someone. We live in the morden world where everything is vastly changing. If this is going to bring more income to the tourism industry in Dominica, i say go ahead.

It seems that if a proper investigation has to be done in Dominica by the view of the pole conducted here that many Dominicans are no longer true Christians.

I would seriously like to hear the churches, priests and pastor and other religious and political leaders come out and speak on this matter. I find their silence, for the most part, very unsettling especially with all the rumors of buggery in official positions in all aspects and positions in the hierarchy of our beloved, supposedly God fearing country.

That’s the problem with some of my people, they make everything personal. What does being gay or straight have to to do with persons patronizing what our country has to offer. For the past years, gay cruises have come to or shores and there have been no issues until recently. Yes, two idiots made a bad choice, and paid for it, but none of us are prefect either.
All I’m saying is, as long as anyone/everyone is respectful to Dominica, our people, our culture and our laws they should be more than welcome to visit and should be inturn treated with respect gay or straight.

And why is the Gov. and Police not cracking down on the prostitution? You have Spanish brothels in every other village. Is this legal? I didn’t think so. March 30, 2012

Anal sex is more likely to transmit AIDS, this is true. But AIDS is definitely not lImited to gays, nor are gays the only ones who have anal sex. There is a shocking lack of use of condoms in Dominica, as the number of illegitimate birhs well shows. Many of our countrymen either believe that they can’t get AIDS from a woman or think that condoms don’t work, and they are very wrong on both counts. Focusing too much on gays makes straight men less likely to get tested, or those who are mostly straight but get some “on the down low” hide it and then spread disease to women through unprotected sex. Condemning and criminalizing gays makes these problems worse.

    • Man in Dominica
      March 30, 2012

One more point–lesbians are of course the lowest risk group for AIDS.

Okay, I’ve been reading a lot of comments about this “Gay Cruise” and quite frankly I’m disappointed in my fellow Dominicans for boldly condoning this sinful act of these sodomites.

One of their many arguments is that “Gay people are born this way and so we should not judge them. Okay, fair enough. But, take this into consideration, the same scientist also claim that murderers, thieves, rapists and so on are also born with these characteristics. So why are are putting these people in jail if they are found guilty of the aforementioned? I mean it’s not like it is their fault right? I guess we should let them live, let them go, because after all they are just doing what they were born to do.

Come on people, I’m not saying that they are not human or anything, I’m simply saying it is wrong. You know it I know it and the heavenly father knows it. I guess those of you who are for it are the biggest hypocrites.

You reached as far as to give them the right to engage in ‘marriage’. No place in the bible does it say that marriage is between the same sex. His word is yesterday, today and forever.

My dear friends, fellow Dominicans. I do not believe personally that the gay cruises should be tolerated or encouraged in our country or anywhere in the region. Each individual country will have to make an individual decision but I really think that it is a bad practice to encourage these cruises. I used to work on a cruiseliner but was fortunate enough to never have to work on a gay cruise. I say fortunate enough because, though I do not hate the ‘sinners’ but instead hate the sin involved in this activity, I am totally against providing them with a venue or a platform for promotion of this sort of activity. When you have a situation where a gay couple is on a normal cruise, they will generally abide by the rules and will behave in a manner considered acceptable when in a public place. However, whenever they are together in such large numbers at an event or venue where the vast majority, if not all the persons there accept their open expressions of love towards each other, they behave like they have suddenly been ‘liberated’ and they tend to go ‘overboard’ with those expressions. This is why I do not believe that they should be encouraged or accepted in such large numbers. They feed off each other’s support and feel the need to make a point which results in a situation where one who is not in support of their activities, is forced to share their experience whether one likes it or not. Let us imagine for example a cruise with two thousand gay people off loading at port and busloads travelling to different sites around the island, arriving at each one in overwhelming numbers. Just imagine how the other tourists or locals who are present may feel when they are suddenly cast into the middle of a large group of gay folks who are suddenly making the point that they are there and that they MUST BE ACCEPTED. This may not be considered a pleasant experience by those who do not find it acceptable to have two men kissing and fondling in there presence, so one can imagine how it would feel for these persons suddenly having to deal with dozens of them engaging in this activity in a public place, encouraged by their strength in numbers. I believe that the vast majority of those polled may have voted yes for one of two reason, namely apathy and/or necessity. By necessity I mean that people are finding it so hard financially at present that they are willing to take money from whom so ever may provide it and will therefore turn a blind eye to that which they think will not affect them or their families PERSONALLY. I believe that we have come to a point in our societies worldwide where values have deteriorated drastically and things are getting worse. One no longer feels able or important enough to make a difference. This is why I pointed out apathy as one of the reasons. Our children no longer get correct by their parents much less others in society. Everyone seems afraid to make his or her observation or contribution for fear of being frowned upon or ridiculed. In the middle of all this, the gay communities are growing in numbers, strength and influence and they are pushing for us to all accept them and their expressions as mainstream and ‘normal’. They want it accepted in every facet of society and are marching on with that agenda. Our side of society is becoming defenceless as we are loosing our values system fast. No one is willing to stand up any more for those values as the strength of those values is being undermined by financial necessity. As a result of this change, people are willing to give up values previously held in order to partake in the sale of drugs, human trafficking, prostitution, murder and kidnap for money and much more. Our children are being groomed from infancy to accept gay/lesbian activity as normal. Gay and lesbian couples want legal rights never before afforded to them. They are now legally adopting children into gay/lesbian relationships; something which will result in the adoptation of these tendencies by many of the children cast into these situations of indoctrination by governments who no longer hold the ‘old fashion values’ dear. Many of the political decision makers are from the gay/lesbian community and so the political and social landscape is being changed in their favour.
So my dear friends, I am saying that though I do not have a problem with humans having individual choice, because after all, God himself has given us that right, I do not believe that it should be encouraged or legislated when we know it to be an activity contrary to the laws of God our Father and Creator and Ruler. We can love our brothers and sisters and in a respectful way, engage in conversation with them as to why we see this activity as wrong and why we do not agree with it. But we should at no time give in to a situation where, for whatever reason, we are ACCEPTING IT AS NORMAL BEHAVIOUR AND EVEN PROMOTING IT IN A WAY THAT WILL AFFECT OUR SOCIETY MOVING FORWARD. We have to maintain a sense of right and wrong and must be prepared to stand for what is right as the norm in our society, and condemn that which we see to be wrong. We have to be willing to contribute to the betterment of our society, the improvement of attitudes and general behaviour in public as well as in private. We as the adults, have a responsibility to teach the children good and bad, to entrench in the the values which we uphold and have upheld for generations and must not allow the dominance of a new culture with promotes disrespectful and uncaring behaviour over love, peace and mutual respect. Mutual respect requires that those of us in the community who may be gay, respect the laws relating to exposure, respect the public decency expected of us all (both gay and straight), and that we learn to make our own decisions in life but never push our sexual preferences down others throats to the extent that we want our way to become THE WAY and to reflect and affect PUBLIC POLICY!!!! Please my people, think again and if you change your minds, write in to DNO and say so!!!! Thank you all and God bless our nation, our leadership, our people and ALL THE DECISIONS MADE ON THEIR BEHALF!!! One love……peace out

It is sad but you seem to be absolutely correct. It is either that or we are in such a bad and failing economic state that we don’t care what we do to earn money anymore. If such is the case, why do we arrest thieves? Thieves break the law to make a living. We are breaking our own laws by allowing known and professed buggers into our island. I’m definitely sure that if there was a cruise ship of professed thieves the majority of Dominicans would vote in the opposite.

Again, I just want to ask all the God loving people in the tourism industry in Dominica, what would Jesus do? Would Jesus welcome the gay cruise ships into heaven? Are we trying to be more worldly or more Christlike? And for those that believe in other religions, do their saviors make provisions for gay people to be welcomed at their sides?

It is an abomination to commit these acts and to even have these thoughts. So says our book that guides our moral code. So says the book we use in the courts to promise to be truthful.

Anyway, I guess the majority of DNO voters have spoken, but that’s not the majority on the island and I hope that the gay infiltration in Dominica does not use this to think they can become more bold in society.

My country, what is wrong with us? Morality is on a downfall and so is prosperity. Why can’t we see that?

Yes we can judge people as per sexual preference. It says so in our law and in the word of God.

Our law says that it is illegal to commit such acts.
God says that to even think of such an act is one of the greatest sins against him. He has given us the precedent as to how to judge a man according to his sexual preference and actions.

I guess you don’t take into consideration the country’s laws or God’s laws when you make such comments as we can’t judge people. Why then do we have a court system? Why then when we folly we say we have sinned? Why must we ask forgiveness when we have sinned against another?

We have to be careful and take a lot into consideration when we offer up our opinions.

You people amaze me! You talk about laws and the bible and yet you are selective in applying laws and the bible..Whoever you are I respect your opinion but respect mine… The bible also talks about keeping the sabbath, murder, stealing, lying, idolatry, adultery, gluttony, to name a few!!! If we are going to talk about laws and the bible then LET’S FOLLOW ALL…

Good facts. Hot debate. I agree with you 100%.
Some say we discrimanate against the gays. But the gays are the ones who are discriminating; the reason they orhainise a cuise only for the gays. It is their joint effort to promote that kind of life.

The people like Adam and Eve just want to taste the forbidden fruit. It will have the same consequences as was with Adam and Eve. our Garden of Eden will in some form be taken away from us. We have a law against homosexuality because buggery is the root of homosexuality, our Christian faith calls it an abomination and we talk nonsense about each to his own sexual preference just because we want money from the gays? If this is so then remove the law from the books and let the local gays who must be in the majority with this poll run free like the gay tourists. Charity begins at home. But then wait till our children start to tell us that each should be free to choose their sexual preference, what would we say then? sow the wind reap the whirlwind.

I do not think we as sinners have the right
to judge anyone according to their life stlye
If we condem “Gay people” what happen to all
the other sins e.g adultery jealousy, hatred
    blasphemy,murder,talking and lying on people
is being gay a higher level of sin. The couple
who were arrested broke the law. They were
prosecuted charged and i agree with that.
As long as the visitors adhere to the laws of the
land for me no problem, We are all sinners .

This poll not scientific, skewed because those gays just get all their pips to vote as many times, because it means a lot to them. Nothing to worry about, they on a mission, but most rather marijuana legalized than THAT.

Every one of you that voted yes, the Heavenly Father knows your heart. He said in his word, that you should not be a partaker of other men’s sins. God have mercy on your souls

You’re entitled to your opinion and I respect that but doesn’t the bible says Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged!and Let Him Who is Without Sin Cast the First Stone? We should pray for each other instead of criticizing and judging each other. You’re no better than an gay person just because you’re straight. We all have flaws.

      • March 28, 2012

Have you ever taken part in a hot debate? I would give @God is truth 100% and you @Help 0%. Why? the person said the heavenly Father knows your heart. @help, what kind of buzzing ambassador are you? Give me a break!

The lord also calls for us to love our neighbours without contempt. We all call on God saying its an abomination yet you out rightly judge your neighbor and discriminate against them.
