Dominica Freedom Party statement on the observance of Labour Day, Monday, May 1, 2017

The Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) extends solidarity and best wishes to the Trade Union Movement and workers at every level of our Dominican society on the occasion of May Day 2017. As we observe and celebrate Labour Day today we should be reminded as workers to make every effort to stay together, work well, produce and put our country first and foremost which would redound to the benefit of everyone and our beloved country Dominica

The observance of Labour Day each year provides an opportunity for reflection on the achievements of the Trade Union movement in Dominica and the gains made by the workers of our beloved country over the years. The DFP believes that organized Labour is a very essential part of our civilization which has and will continue to play an important role in our Nation’s development

The Dominica Freedom Party is of the view that in spite of the present economic and social challenges confronting the country, the region and the international community the Trade Union Movement remains relevant but has to be united, prepared, unafraid, and fair and muststrategized properly to face present and future challenges

The DFP cautioned that partisan politics should be the least concern of workers and their Trade Unions when it comes to making and taking decisions regarding their employment and conditions of work and to guard against actions that will unfairly frighten their existence by being united and to engage themselves in doing what is right at all times. Workers must also safeguard their employment by being productive and always ready to give a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay.

Once again, Skerrit has proved to be a master political tactician. Cultivate the taste of the masses, learn what they want, and give it to them, giving their leadership (Unions) the middle finger with a Skerrit wink of the eye, for good measure. Master political strategists, (not tacticians) using the viewpoint of history nod their heads sagely. They know how it will end. With Linton letting him off the hook with his bull in a china shop behavior, those strategists might not know when it will end. But they know how.

DNO, my comment is waiting moderation. That’s very, very good political journalism, why, you and your party are paying from the pocket! DNO, you are one responsible for the demise and downfall of Lenox, because you have failed to publish facts that doesn’t favor his political bias ideology. Like your leader pretty soon your will be wounded like %. The DFP is committing political suicide by ailing themselves with the North Henchmen. % % % must pay.

This article confirms what we celebrate on May Day: A fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work. In recent years, Dominica has drifted far from that cherished ideal. We are plagued with biased promotion, fear of persecution for constructive criticism and denial of jobs if not supportive of the party in power. Workers must enjoy the freedom from harassment on the job and freedom to fulfill their own potential in their chosen field.

May our next workers’ observance see positive changes as we labour resolutely to bring a clear vision for a better Dominica.

Black Woman please tell me when last the Trade Unions in Dominica have ever had a successful Labour Day celebration? De PM and his cabinet did not kibosh that. The Union leaders did that. They are more focused on quarreling with the employers (esp the DPSU) than on organizing effective Labour Day celebrations. Tell them to stop playing politics and being in bed with the Opposition and organize the workers

While I share these sentiments expressed by the DFP, the people of Dominica will not forget the so-called coalition government that was formed by members of the DLP and DFP to defeat UWP. Although most of these freedom party members later defected from this corrupt DLP regime, we are still reminded that the actions of these two parties gave us Skeritt who is an international disgrace for Dominica. Therefore, I will embrace the spirit of cooperation to unite as a people to rid the country of this incompetent administration.

GOOD MESSAGE…..It is however sad that in my country, a gang of doggone numskulls, who are scared like hell of being out of power, are presently competing with our trade unions on a day workers world wide has to reflect and review their achievements, shortfalls and future plans.
While St Vincent just celebrated the opening of an international airport, St Lucia is modernizing its port to accommodate megaships, and every other OECS and Caribbean countries are celebrating things worthy of celebration, Skerrit and his gang of low witted idiots and SOO TE WERS, ARE CELEBRATING THE OPENING OF A BASIC PIECE OF INFRASTRUCTURE…I pay no attention to that.. I would rather celebrate a functional judicial system, a functional police force, voting with a purged voters list and voters ID Card, and many other things that are present in countries that are not as CORRUPT as my country. Imagine if MISS Charles had to celebrate opening of bridges??? Celebration would be happening even to this day.
