Following a request from the Government of Dominica to relieve those affected by the passage of Tropical Storm Erika, the government of Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided emergency relief to the country amounting to US$100,000.

The supplies include 25 electric generators with cord reels, 20 water purifiers and 20 water tanks.

The items were handed over on Saturday at the Canefield Airport.

Ambassador Designate of Japan to Dominica, His Excellency Mitsuhiko Okada, said the people of Japan deeply empathize with the country’s plight and are concerned about the well being of the nation.

“After seeing the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Erika, I was moved to come here to personally deliver emergency relief goods and express our heartfelt sympathy and support,” he said said at the handing-over ceremony. “In delivering these relief goods, it is our hope that the 25 power generators, 20 water purifiers and 20 water tanks, which amount to approximately US$100,000, will be of great assistance to those communities that have been severely affected by the tropical storm.”

Okada, who is visiting the island for the first time, hopes that the citizens of Dominica will find the strength to overcome the challenges posed by Erika and begin the path to a speedy recovery.

Minister for Justice, Immigration and National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore said the delivery of the items is a clear indication of the commitment of Japan to the people of Dominica.

Blackmoore pointed out that notwithstanding the very tragic moment the country have experienced in the development as a people, “something refreshing is emerging.”

“We have seen the outpouring of so many aspects of goodwill from countries far away from us and Japan, of course is very far away from us, but of course in spirit and in deeds, we are demonstrating that we really share a common humanity,” he stated.

If the hundred thousand dollars is in that box, we can be assured that perhaps two thousand dollars or less will go to the people of Dominica.

I know where the rest will go. I know into whose pocket, and bank account it will going to, but I doh talking er! I wonder what sort of common humanity Dominica share with Japan. Dominica politicians just keep on talking crap! I wish Blackmoore would define his stupid comment!

I forgot to say the few Voltmaster generators seen in the picture will all go to the government ministers supports who has no electricity in their home, while no UWP suppers will get a single one.

Balckmoore might keep them all and sell them on the black market!

      Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha!

Either that or some labor man, or woman will thief them all; that is the humanity we have in common with Japan!

People of Dominican decent serving in the US Military or who have served in the US military should get on the horn and call their US Member of Congress in the United States and ask why Dominica is being ignored when so many people have left Dominica to serve the United States in the US military. There are hundreds of people from Dominica who have served in the US military going back all the way to world war 2. One man from La Plane was killed in Vietnam.

As long as Skerrit is prime minister in Dominica, the nation will be ignored; and that nonsense about Dominicans serving in the military should do crap is only wishful thinking, you all need to learn the American system, and know how it works, before making useless comments.

Dominicans in the American military, were not drafted from Dominica to serve, no one coerce them to joined the military, they voluntarily signed up; and are paid for their services. You people suffer from a feel ” sorry, and buy sympathy complex” Somebody; some nation must feel sorry for you all and give you something for free.

Skerrit has compared himself and, Dominica to Obama, and the United States, he did when he said the same as Obama has money at the White House to spend and give away as he like, he Skerrit also have money at the red clinic to give to his supporters. You all hate Americans, yet you want free things from them how sad!

Thanks very much Japan for stepping up on our behalf. Dominica really needs all the help we can get if we are going to rebound. DNO, I continue to question the almost no-show of The United States of America during such a difficult time? I know US they would be getting USD$50,000 for humanitarian assistance, but knowing the USA that we have gotton accustomed to during a disaster and clearly we can see they are almost out this time around. As a Dominican residing in the US I wonder why? Someone really needs to clear the air on this. The same could be said of Cananda

Why would you question the absence of the USA. Why the sense of entitlement. The U.S. Owes us nothing if they come thank God if they don’t then we find a way to do for our selves.
