The Ministry of Social Services, Family, and Gender Affairs joins with the International Community in recognizing International Day to Reject Violence Against Women and Girls on Friday, November 25, 2016. Each year the United Nations observes 16 days of Activism to highlight the international campaign to end violence against women and girls.

Over the period of sixteen (16) days, November 25th – December 10th several agencies around the world will partner with the United Nations in the drive to protect the human rights of women and girls to live free from violence. This year, World Aids Day, International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities and Human Rights Day will also be observed during this period.

The 16 day campaign will include a Young Women in Leadership and Diversity Seminar, Gender Self-Exploration Tour at the Dominica State College, Church Leaders Workshop, and Community Meetings and other public awareness activities coordinated by the Bureau of Gender Affairs in partnership with NGO’s and Civil Society.

This year International Day to Reject Violence Against Women and Girls is Celebrated under the UN Women Theme “Orange the World: Raise Money to End Violence Against Women and Girls.” The Public is invited to wear Orange on Friday, November 25 to symbolize a brighter future without violence.

We also invite the public to join the social media campaign by sharing photos, messages, and videos showing how you “Orange the World” using the hashtags #orangetheworld #16days #endviolence. The observance of this day and the activities which will follow over the next 16 days are intended to remind us that violence against women is a human rights violation and that prevention is possible and essential.

This is absolutely a Nobel thing to recognize all the violence against women and girls but I personally think that men and young boys she be recognized because they are not exempt from all the violence either just saying

It is appropriate to have a special day of the year to honor womanhood and remind ourselves of how wrong and cowardly violence against woman and girls is.

This should be taught in the homes, schools, and churches of the nation. It should be – as it is – supported by governments. Needless to say, we want to see this reflected in our courts.

The Master said “Do to others as you would want them to do to you.” Obviously, this applies to both genders. Some of the DNO comments have mentioned that men are sometimes the “victims”. Let it be noted that violence is always wrong. When others are held in respect and kindness is practiced by all a special day to “Reject Violence against Women and Girls” will no longer be necessary. If the nation would
adopt God’s moral code as He has given it to us in the New Testament many of our ills and woes would disappear in a very short time.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

Boy this is complicated stuff. One psychologist said that some women tease their mate for a fight. That get them in a mood to freak out……One man told me that his wife love men who wears combat uniform; Police, Sailors, Soldier, Ship captain and any man with a badge. I’m very cool and love to play and be nice – I have noticed that my “ladies” didn’t take me seriously. They took me for granted. They love men who are greedy, love to make noise if his meal is not on time. Men who is afraid to shower and brush his teeth; having goatie smell. Hey!!! You’d be surprise to know the type of men most women like/love. Nasty and uncouth dudes. “Oh, he beats me because he loves me.” Oh yeah??!! Look, a woman will more stay in an abusive relationship, rather that stay in a calm and very peaceful one. Why? Don’t ask me, papa…They are women! That’s why.

This should be observed everyday and not simply on November 25.

I am in total agreement that women and girls should be protected against violence…
I am a very strong advocate of prevention of these crimes..
However, I have realized also, that women, not girls are also perpetrators of such crimes.

The crimes they commit is one of a psychological nature. Psychological abuse can lead to an actual physical crime.
Men are abused psychologically by there partners and are weak by nature emotionally. They are vulnerable to resort to physical violence or brut force to exert control.

I don’t agree to this forms of control, but it is a reality…
There is an old sAYING WOMEN DON’T LIKE SOFT MAN.
A soft man would want to talk … he wants to reason.. he wants to do the right thing even getting hurt in the process emotionally and is laugh at by society.
So what are we saying ?
only women that get abused ?
What about these men ? Those that suffer Psychological abuse from there partner, and no one cares for them.

What about the women that turn their children against there fathers and welfare and gender affairs would do
      nothing to help them ?
It is time to stop the hypocrisy and deal with the situation comprehensively..
I am in total agreement that men should stop abusing women and girls.. (they should be punished!)
But what about the good men that are constantly abused and no one cares for them ?

Some women are more wicked than men, yet, they constantly play victim … why ? the man is always considered to be the victimizer …. even if he is innocent..
      What a shame !
I feel sorry , because you guys will never say sorry !

I agree. Many men do try to do their best. In particular there is truth in your statements:

“A soft man would want to talk … he wants to reason… he wants to do the right thing even getting hurt in the process emotionally…What about the women that turn their children against their fathers…”

Furthermore, man to man’s comments are relevant in that they begin to put a finger on some of the root causes of violence. Punishing the perpetrator and counselling the victim will not in themselves solve the problem.
