Dominica Olympic Committee dispute deepens

Dominica Olympic CommitteeFourteen of the 18 affiliate members of the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) have written to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) asking for intervention in a dispute which has developed between them and the executive of the DOC.

In the letter dated June 7, the members say they are “aggrieved” at the manner in which the DOC is being governed by its president, Felix Wilson and general secretary, Thomas B. Dorsette.

They complained of irregularities  during a meeting for the election of officers to the DOC executive on January 24, 2013. “The matter really escalated into total chaos during and after the meeting which was called for the election of officers to the D.O.C Executive on January 24, 2013,” the letter stated. “There were many irregularities relating to this meeting which we are all convinced were illegal and unconstitutional.”

This is not the first time the IOC will be hearing from the DOC.

On June 7 the DOC executive released a statement saying it has referred the dispute to the IOC and was waiting a response.

This, after a special meeting was held between member organizations and the DOC executive on April 25 at the Fort Young Hotel.

However the meeting descended into chaos and after members thought it was going nowhere decided to pass a resolution giving the DOC executive 21 days to hold an Annual General Meeting in order for fresh elections to be held.

In their letter to the IOC the DOC executive questioned whether such meeting should be held.

“Repeated appeals were made by the executive for the matters raised at the special general meeting to be brought to the International Olympic Committee for a civil resolution; however, some members feared their interests would not have been served. The question; is there any need for elections in 21 days?” the DOC executive said in the statement.

In its letter the affiliated members produced a list which they say they want the IOC to consider “and for which we solicit your advice and intervention.”

It is about time that this should be done. I say finally. Having said that, their are a few people who signed this letter who themselves where involved in undercover/secret operations to alienate other Olympic Athletes from participating in certain committees affiliated to the Olympic Charter and are now running the association as like their personal business. Individuals ……..all former Dominican Olympians are 100% supportive of the movement that is going on right now.

We need an executive who has the best interest of the athletes at hand. The current executive comprise of a bunch of pompous, arrogant ………individuals. Time is up. Let us get some representation.

I hope the IOC will intervene and get this matter sorted. Just from looking on from the outside I feel that there were too many “wrongs” at that election. It seems like it was really manipulated and the executive should be ashamed of themselves for stooping so low just to regain power.
Again another prime example of how power corrupts absolutely.
