Dominican artist displays works

Dominican contemporary artist, Marvin Fabien, is featuring a collection of his work at the Tao Restaurant and Art Gallery.

Fabien said the exhibition dubbed “Sidon, the Language of the Angel” is an evolution from his previous exhibition “Bouyon, Spirituality as a Culture.”

He noted that “Sidon” draws from a collective Caribbean and Western culture “a metaphoric language which filled with signs and symbols which are transient in nature.”

Fabien said his work “affirms a Caribbean aesthetic and also questions the decline of a diverse culture, or a ‘Diverse Man’, to a sort of uniform global culture or ‘Homogeneous Man.'”

The artist got his training in Trinidad and Martinique and has held exhibitions in France, Martinique and Dominica.

The exhibition got underway on Wednesday.

DNO in future can you also source a brief narrative or description from the artist about particular pieces? Forgive my ignorance but I”ve looked at the painting a few times and still can’t tell what the hell it is!
