How people born between 1975 and 1999 think, act and adapt to changes in society is the subject of a new publication scheduled to be launched here next week on June 28.
Dubbed “After my Generation” the book written by Dominican author Marcelin Lockhart focuses on those referred to as Generation “Y”.
According to the author, generation “Y” came about during the Information Revolution which was centred on widespread adoption of the internet.
He describes the publication as one highlighting some of the risk factors that affect the youth in Dominica and the Caribbean, and the cost to society.
It also examines how society responds to their way of life.
Lockhart attempts to place the situation of Dominica’s youth in the largest possible context, and says that his passion for understanding youth and their related social problems was one main reason for writing this book.
The penned thoughts take into account the familial, economic, social, technological and psychological factors that impinge on youth development.
According to Lockhart “the overall aim is to provide a platform for discussion in order that media practitioners, policy makers, youth providers, parents and youth themselves can make informed statements about issues pertaining to the youth.”
He says he drew on his years of experience working with young people to fashion the 335-page publication.
The book launching will be held at the UWI Open Campus, with those on hand given an opportunity to meet the author and get a copy signed.
full suport comrade sure want asn autographed copy
I think the author has the Generation dates confused.Gen Y most usually refers to persons born after 1980, they are sometimes referred to as the millenials esp for those born after 2000. Gen X is usually 1965-1980. Being a Gen X-er is different from a Gen Y. We Gen Xer’s grew up with atari’s, large floppy discs, and tape cassette and still played outside for the most part. The internet came to be mainstream in Dominica in the ealry 90’s when we Gen Xers were just done with A-level college. I remember Dominica had recently introduced cable TV in the 80’s; the first show I saw was the little mermaid. GenY’s were usually glued to the television and were cuddled. Nonetheless, I would like to read why the author decided to shift the years of the Generations.

@Kevin, please learn to support each other and stop displaying the “crab mentality”, which is pulling down a person as they try to escape from the enclosed box. We are a group of intelligent people and given the opportunity we go the extra mile to be the best with the rest. One love my brother.
Congrats… excellent idea

Congrats comrade; I trust that mine eyes are privy to the contents of this publication. I vivdly remember that you indicated working on the same. I commend you on the materialization of the literary peice.
Interesting, I can see some homework or an SBA research coming from that book in the future, or maybe it might be used in school as some form of literature. Good work Mr Lockhart
sounds interesting, hope that our reading public will use this as an opportunity to feed their knowledge base and make informed comments on DNO before speculating on the nature of the book.
Congratulations Macelin
i look forward to reading your work.
Sounds interesting. Will it be on amazon
Sounds like an interesting book Mr. Lockhart… COngratulations!!
Lockhart, i hope u read this but i really cannot see any unique aspects of your books as most caribbean countries are influenced by pax Americana.
If North Korea was opened up to South Korea they would get the same social changes like South korea, why don’t u fellas write more meaningful literature.
Why Morihei? Why would you say that? If you have nothing positive to say or you are so challenged to simply extend Congrats to the young man, you should just remain quiet. We need to encourage our youth to read, tell stories and write. This is the only way we can have a well-developed and literate society.
Please allow me Mr. Lockhart to forgive Morihel on your behalf and to accept her/his apology, as we excuse the display of ignorance in the statement.
Have you read the man’s book? I suppose your answer is NO. Then, I suggest you keep your negative views to yourself.
@Morihei Ueshiba
Have you already read the book? No? Then what are you griping about! At least Mr. Lockhart took a stab at the issue…that’s progresive. What have you done? What meanigful literature have you written? Start contributing and cease the non-constructive criticism. Read the book first, then engage in some intellectual discussion on the merits of its contents. That’s the way intelligent people do it. Have yourself a constructive day…and read the book, you might be better off for it!!
Give the writer some encouragement nou, so that next time he can write about South and North Korea.
Morihel Ueshiba
You should keep your mouth taped since you don’t have anything meaningful to say. Shame on you!!!
Morihel Ueshiba, you are bringing negative energy to such a great accomplishment. We need to support and uplift each other. Please look at life from a more positive perspective. You will be blessed and be able to bless others in return. Peace. Be happy.
Congrats,Mr.Lockhsrt
Well done Marcellin. Keep up the good work. Congratulations bro.
I believe I wanna read this book…..nice to see indepth stuff coming from home soil. Kudos to Mr Lockhart!
Congrats to you my friend and comrade, my brother from an another mother. Paix Bouche Represent
It is very refreshing that PROF. WIKILEAKS, PEEPING TOM and ROSEAU VALLEY agree on an issue. Indeed, I too wish to extend congratulations to Mr. Lochart, albeit he is not my comrade, nor my brother from another mother-just as a fellow Dominican.
