To be honest, this is just a big yawn. Unless you plan on buying one of those passports, I really don’t think the ranking makes any difference at the end of the day.

Our various governments over the years decided for reasons of raising money that they were going to forego the ease of visa free entry to certain countries. They must have thought it was more important than having native born Dominicans travel to those countries hassle-free. The barn door was open years ago and this has become a way of life for the average Dominican.

For most of us here it makes little difference because we carry passports of our adopted countries. But whether we beat up ourselves or not, the restrictions will only get worse as the government gets more aggressive in selling more passports.

As a Canadian, I am free to travel to most countries (others with just a rubber stamp visa), yet I was shocked to get know that Dominicans are treated with suspect when they wish to travel to Canada. I wonder why? A few years ago, things were so different.

Some comments here are laughable. One wonders whether some people(like Francisco) really understand what they read from the above article.

I find it so odd that the OECS countries are not all ranked equally or even much closer together?

I thought that we were signing treaties as a “regional block” so why the wide discrepancy? Seems I need to exchange my DA passport for a St. Kitts one – since they can access atleast 34 more countries than us without needing a visa….

I probably have just enough money saved to buy one… I wonder if they’ll give me a discount if I tell them they can also sell my DA one to recoup the balance of the funds…

the rating system is clear from the article., if you read it. it determines your passport’s ability to get you into a country without a visa.

“The ranking was released last week by travel and residence website passportindex.org.”

I would not believe that crap with a cup of fresh spring water, and a single grain of salt. If the source is a simple website, one would have to be a fool to believe what they pull from a website. Let us get some facts and figures from and official Government Institution who have issued these free via’s, only then I might become a believer!

All you Haterz of Dominica can talk Sheet eh!!!! Dominica ranks before St. Vincent and Grenada none of whom sells Passport, what do you have to say for that? Now observe all the OECS sub-region placed high as compared to Jamaica and Guyana. St Lucia and Antigua is looking into selling passports so it cannot be that bad right?

    • budman
      April 29, 2015

I note that this list is published by Arton, one of the companies that promote the sale of our Economic Citizenship Program. The local contact shown is Cassie Walker of 36 Cork Street, Roseau, tel: 448 6518.
There are other bodies showing these listings, such as Henley & Partners, all based on the the ease of access (visa free) a country’s passport provides – the more countries that can be entered without a visa, the more valuable a passport is. Henley & Parters list Dominica at 45, joint with Belize and Antigua & St. Kitts in joint 24th. place (although I understand that St. Kitts has been downgraded since because of visa restrictions imposed by Canada). See also Henley & Partners, Visa Restriction Index, which shows Finland, Germany, Sweden , U.S.A. and the U.K. in first place.

    April 28, 2015

LMAO…ummm I don’t think beating out Haiti, Suriname, Guyana or Jamaica constitutes much of a win. Mention any of those countries to Dominicans and you don’t exactly get a picture of positivity when it comes to immigration. Grenada and St. Vincent fell short by One country…so not sure if we are exactly miles ahead there either!

    • joe
      April 28, 2015

St Lucia is by 1 too what is your point MANDATE TO MISMANAGE??

      • Titiwi
        April 28, 2015

Joe, as far as I know St. Lucia does not have a an economic citizenship programme. So what is YOUR point?

      • joe
        April 29, 2015

Titiwi my point exactly, they DO NOT HAVE AN ECONOMIC CITIZENSHIP PROGRAM and there is only one country they can go without a visa as compared to us!!!!!! If you do not get this point then am sorry talk to those who criticizes everything Dominica!!!!

Hmmm, apparently he was also listed as a QC at that meeting in Bejing where he spoke. He wants to have one up on the other S.C. perhaps? These people have tralala and make us look ridiculous.

Considering St Kitts unscrupulous passport selling program it is quite strange that St Kitts rank #4

    • Ma Moses
      April 28, 2015

Well that only tells me that Dominica’s programme must be even more unscrupulous.

    April 28, 2015

It should be noted that although Haiti is a full Caricom member it does not use the common format Caricom passport.

  17. Anansi
    April 28, 2015

That’s really nothing to brag about. If we were first or second runner up, then that would be a proud accomplishment. Should the current regime continue in its reckless disregard for the accountability and due diligence in the sales/issuance of Dominican passports, we won’t even be on future Caricom listings.

    • real possie
      April 29, 2015

@ Anansi, when you say the regime please do your research before blogging, since the DLP been in power has any country imposed visa ristriction on DA?

      • April 29, 2015

Yes Canada implemented visa for Dominica in 2001, I will not disclose my employment status, and I do know the facts regarding the issues of visa to Dominican and the other Caribbean Islands, so to you Real Possie since The Dominica Labor Party came into power, Dominicans do need a visa to visit, migrate, study etc to enter Canada, so you need to do your research as well before blogging

For your information I left Dominica in the early 90s with an invitation letter with the name address
telephone and employment info and not a visa which is required by Dominicans to enter Canada which I will mention again was implements after DLP took power

      • Titiwi
        April 29, 2015

Sorry Joe but Canada imposed visa restrictions on us in 2002, under a labour govt.

  18. Timely Reminder
    April 28, 2015

I treat this top ranking position as a warning of things to come, so that when they come we will remember where we were. I believe it is their way of telling us how our passport is valued and for us to go all over promoting it sale to just about anybody that can come up with $250K

  19. pray more, preach more
    April 28, 2015

Soon we will trade ranking with Haiti. Just remember that as of April 28, 2015 Dominica passport is ranked at # 8. Where will we be ranked in 2018 under Skerrit?
