This should be an important one of your 2 annual trips home. You will learn lots, that there is building materials in the stores. Maybe your family don’t want you to come so you can better afford to send the money, not a bad thing. But is only here on the ground you see things as they are. I suspect Someone is pulling the wool over you eyes. You will learn it will take a little time and effort as usual but it’s not that bad. Come home..see for yourself. ..only then you’ll get a better view of the situation. I got lumber, ply, cement, galVenize, nails, …of and on a shortage but come, get better perspective then go back. That’s what I did.

sigh…If Domlec was not a monopoly company….they would put there self in gear……I no of people whose house was certified by Domlec 2 months now and haven’t received light as yet while certain individuals get certified today and light tomorrow. I no is a lot but this kind of picking and choosing and who has friends in high places need to stop…Maria was a wake up call to show that we all are on the same page…sadly people only realized that for a week….Dominica…hmmm..i just don’t know anymore…Not no place for progress….That’s A BETTT!!!!

I wonder how many millions in profit Domlec will earn during the next reporting period? I will light 1 candle for every Dominican who now has power restored. Lord knows that the bills will be space-high instead of sky-high.

We talk about climate resilience but, with our terrain, carrying mains electricity about on poles is as un-resilient as you can get!

That’s the problems, Skerrit and his Ministers use these two words at the moment on an ongoing basis but they haven’t got the faintest idea of the meaning. As always it’s all about words but no action. This lot is as useless as an ashtray on a motorbike.

      December 25, 2017

If Dominicans complain about the cost of electricity on poles which, is a fraction of the cost of running lines underground in Dominica, who will pay the high rates? Will you Mr. Burnett pay the electricity bill for those of us who can’t afford?
We would move us so much further as a nation if you spend more time informing yourself before blatantly displaying your ignorance on the issue.

Cable and Wireless did it. I wonder who was paying those telephone bills? Hmmm. Something to ponder.

    • Titiwi
      December 26, 2017

This made me think Roger. Are Flow I.e. Cable & Wireless, really interested in restoring a terrestrial network in Dominica? After all there are fewer subscribers and telephone traffic can be effected just as easily by mobile phones. This raises at the same time the question of cable t.v. Will it be worthwhile for Someone like Martin to invest in restoring landlines. I hope someone can give us clear answers to these questions. I would hate to see us regress to the “dark” days by default.

      • Roger Burnett
        December 27, 2017

        Dear Titiwi,

Now that we have the technology to receive phone, internet and television by other means, I doubt that it would make sense for C&W et al to go back to stringing unsightly wires on poles.

The aesthetics of the landscape would benefit by the omission.

Hello and good evening my people. Well am coming home in March to repair the roof of my family home but with this rate my community on the east coast won’t have electricity until 2025.

    • Kermit
      December 25, 2017

Right March you coming? You self not easy to say that.

        December 27, 2017

        To: Kirmit

Hello and good morning my people. My uncle told me that building materials are not staying in the hardware so he suggested that by March they will have building materials like,Galvanize,Presure treated plywood and two by four which I need to repair our home. I can’t come home and don’t have the materials to complete the repairs.

If you projecting 2025, buy a generator like the rest of us Dominicans who did not run away to the USA and others but stay to develop our country. Stop bringing shame to the rest of us who see what has to be done to restore the country.
Six months after Maria is when you coming down to start to repair your family roof?? And you want to complain about DOMLEC.. SMDH and SMT…

        December 27, 2017

Hello and good morning my people. Well I sent four,5500 Watts generators to my uncles and aunts and I also sent eleven heavy duty tarps that have a three year outdoor use. I also support my aunts and uncles by sending each of them three hundred US dollars a month to make sure they can purchase what they need. My aunt have a home in Bath Estate just passed the bridge and two weeks ago she got her electricity turn on which is just outside the city so what’s that telling you. It seems to me that DOMLEC didn’t bring any outside help which is reflective in their own percentage of progress. Now I born in Dominica and left in 1968 and I have been coming home twice a year since 2009 after I retired. I was in Dominica for carnival where I spent one month but since the hurricane I can come when building materials will be available in the hardware stores. Also am responding to your post but I respect you so I refused to addressed you by your name. Thanks.

The BVI is getting soooo much help from the caribbean the last 27 came from Canada for three weeks just went home for christmas and will be back in January. Some from caribbean will be working all through christmas and there’s no politics in this !. I feel sooo sad for my Dominican people :(

      December 23, 2017

Bvi is wayyyyy smaller and less complicated terrain wise than Dominica…..So what is your point? …Kudos to Domlec i think u guys are doing just great….Dominica got maria worse than the USVI and unstill now we not a 100% energize in the USVI and we got so much linesmen from the states helping to restore power and we still not yet a 100% yet….So give domlec a break.

Thanks for te update Domlec but to me the phrase “circuit energized” does not mean that customers are connected and are supplied wit electric current. One thing I don’t understand is why you still have that regulatory commission on your back.It is an expensive body, paid though government, unnessarily inflating costs and yet still insisting at a time like this that people must apply to them for a generator license. This is madness! Disbandon that commission, there is no need for it and lower the tariffs with the money saved instead.

    • derp
      December 22, 2017

ye that’s why circuit energized in this instance refers to the line or area has power, but not individual houses, or all houses they need to be certified before being connected to the grid

DumbLEC needs to get much more crews from across the region.
The current crews are burnt out.
At the current rate the east coast will get power in 2020.

Yes.. They should force people from their countries to help us get lights because we can’t survive without it.
