Don Christopher laid to rest

The coffin containing the body of Don Christopher

The legal fraternity in Dominica turned out in large numbers on Friday to say final “farewell” to prominent lawyer Bernard Don Christopher.

They lined up in the aisle of Our Lady of Fatima where the coffin of the late lawyer was wheeled to the front of the church.

Parish priest, Fr. Clement, offered words of comfort to grieving family members by asking  them to “pray and take courage for death is a must.”

After the funeral the body of Christopher was taken to the Roseau Catholic Cemetary where he was laid to rest.

Christopher died on April 23 at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) after a brief illness.

In times of death could be seen much hypocrisy. The legal fraternity never acknowledged Don Christopher’s efforts in fighting continually for Electoral Reforms, which is a pillar for our so called democratic way of life.

Where were they when Don was advocating for the authorities to respond positively to the recommendations of the Electoral Commission for funds to provide VOTER ID CARDS and to clean up the bloated, unclean VOTERS’ LIST. About 8 years have passed since the Commission requested financial help from Govt. to do what is right.

Don was abandoned in that fight to ensure our elections are FREE and FAIR. According to the calypsonian, ‘Many among us must search and get back their conscience.’ It is not surprising at all why those things are happening.

Now with crocodile tears, that same legal fraternity and others in authority feeling sad and spewing all kinds of praises to DON. When he was alive, he faced hell, ridicule. As a member of the Electoral Commission, he worked hard to make Dominicans aware of the importance of Reforms in our electoral process. Pressure. Pressure. He was chastised. Don is dead. No changes to the electoral process. None to come, not in the near future. The legal fraternity would still be around and will say nothing in that regard. Just crocodile tears and hypocrises.

May he rest in peace! This was a good mortal and spiritual send-off. It tells much about him and how he lived. May his family be consoled and reminded that God has reserved a special place for him and one day they will be united. All of us hope for this, to meet our departed loved ones someday when God sees fit. May this serve as a source of consolation to you.
He will be remembered in my prayers, also in the general Church until the end of time. I have written his name, to be placed in the Book of Life in November when the faithful departed souls will be especially remembered. Whatever we do, we receive two-fold from no other but God Himself.
    God’s blessing and Peace!

Death is a must indeed but no matter how well we were taught that….it is still very very hard to come to terms with it when it happens…

    Farewell Don….rest well.

“DEATH IS A MUST”!? THAT’S THE BEST THING THE PRIEST FIND TO TELL A GRIEVING FAMILY!? THE PEOPLE SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED OR COUNSELLED BY A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL CLERGY. WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO TELL A GRIEVING FAMILY, JUST STAY SILENT.

Every man is born under the sentence of death, only time and manner of execution unknown;so what’s wrong with that “Ray”.

Should he lie and tell them that it is an option? Grow up. And the priest has many years of experience.

      @ Ray

You deserved all the thumbs down. Why do you not become a Priest seeing that you appear to be an expert on what should be stated or not?
The problem with a person as you is you refuse to face the fact that, “Death is a must, indeed!” Here today, gone tomorrow. Life was promised to no one. What else did you expect the Priest to state?
Those who have faith in God and who genuinely practice the faith are fully aware of that and gain strength from it. They have nothing to fear. They will also not chastise the Priest for making such a statement. It is his duty to state whatever he is inspired to state based on the circumstances. We must be reminded of the inevitable. Be broadminded. You also lack spiritual enlightenment.

Cowards die many times before their death.
The valiant never tastes of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I’ve yet have heard,
It seems to me most strange that men should fear.
Seeing that death, a necessary end will come when it will come.
I do believe this is where you are at present, scared of the inevitable. Live accordingly and you will have nothing to worry about.
