Drigo confirmed as Police Corporal

Drigo

Jefferson Drigo, who has taken legal action for alleged denial of promotion, has been promoted to Corporal.

Drigo, who is Chairman of the Police Welfare Association (PWA) recently stated that he had instructed his attorney to take legal action against Chief of Police, Daniel Carbon, for bypassing him for the post of Corporal of Police.

He said the PWA will not stand by and allow the level of what he labeled as “victimization” being done against police officers by Carbon.

On Monday Drigo confirmed that he was promoted, however, he said if he had not challenged the non appointment, the matter would have remained the same.

He described the initial non appointment as a clear case of victimization and is calling on other police officers who feel aggrieved to challenge decisions made about them.

You take a police commissioner to court in any country over a promotion and your career is over. Only in Dominica I see that nonsense taking place. Good luck hope it was worth it.

How quickly we forget. Superintendent Cuffy Williams challenged the system back in 1997/98 and won. He was bye-passed for promotion to the rank of inspector and when he queired to the Commissioner (S. Darroux and PWA Chairman S. lestrade – now deceased) he was not given any good reason why he was bye-passed. The matter went to court and Cuffy Williams prevailed. The poor Fontaine Officer (an avid supporter of the UWP, then in government) was humbled by the court when he was asked to remove the inspector’s uniform and hand the same over to Cuffy Williams. Who was the government then – 1995 – 2000?

Drigo stood up and he won. Wow shameful and this is what we have been reduced to.

Jefferson Drigo- you are very much appreciated. You have become a lighting rod for your fellow cops and others.

    Thanks

There should be a stranded written , and oral test for promotion, the oral should consist of male , and female supervisors , with a none bias opinion.

Treat people fairly. For a police officer to have to threaten the powers that be with a lawsuit to get his rightful promotion is a damning indictment on the Police Force. This is demoralizing to those officers who work tirelessly hard and then are unjustly pass over for promotion. This is simply egregious. The C.O.P. should resign, he is uniquely unqualified for this critical position.

Congratulations on your promotion. However, do not let it go to your head and overly celebrate the satisfaction of your achievement. Simply ensure you perform your job with increased income effectively and that you serve Dominicans to the best of your ability. This is the essence of what the job is all about.

I know the country in which I am serving is very difficult to take the cop to court for promotion because you have to do a written exam in order to be promoted, so once you pass you can be promoted or take action once you certain you have pass your exam then

Congrats are in order to a brother-in-blue. However, it should have never come to this, whereby officers have to threaten legal action to get promoted. The process should be one of transparency, non partisanship, and fairness. Now CPL Drigo, please continue to be the current and future voice for those that are and will be denied progression, in what should be one of the most meritocratric institutions in the C/wealth of Dominica.

In bygone years they would grin and bear it patiently and humbly, knowing nothing lasts forever, just as our life and, in time that promotion could occur. It is not wise to fight the boss.
Today, some people challenge everything. This means they are more aggressive as former ones in those days.
There are times, to avoid a long drawn out costly and time-consuming case, the other party simply give in. It does not always mean consent. If you are broadminded you will comprehend.

    • May 15, 2017

I agree. It should never have come to this. But without that move, he would not have been corporal. A posting he obviously deserves. It reminds me that the Bar Association wants to crucify Cabral for what Cabral alleges to be questionable conduct by Byron of the CCJ. But they will not crucify Byron for his “allegedly” questionable conduct. The status quo stands for the status quo. Who will stand for us if we don’t?

    • May 15, 2017

Now that you know try and educate your folks and friends remember it’s not about party it’s all about what is right and what belong to them and how they have been victimized .Way to go officer justice comes with a price so stand firm regardless of what the system dictates.

    Great
    Congratulations
now the trend is set .
Treat all officers fairly or we will meet in court .
    Mister Commissioner you too wicked
Now, as victimization is seemingly established, compensation should be awarded , yes directly from de Commissioners wages ; how to achieve that is another problem.

  30. May 15, 2017

Congratulation Sir on your promotion, there is an old saying in America [the squeaky wheel get the most grease,] fair is fair, you stood up to the power that be Mr Cabon has to go, he is asleep at the wheel, to much stuff is happening on his watch, he not pro- active ,.
