The Sunrise Sewing Group of Grand Fond is expected to benefit from a major cash injection for the purchase of much needed equipment.

The Dominica Social Investment Fund (DISIF) has granted the group $56,600 for the purchase of five computers, industrial sewing equipment and cooking equipment.

The former Parliamentary Representative Abraham Browne submitted a proposal to DSIF, which also provided the funds for training the group members in sewing and dress making.

Browne said the Youth Division has also collaborated with the group and has added another five computers to their stock for use in the upper part of a two-storey building, where the group has setup a computer training centre for the entire South Eastern district.

Former Minister of Community Development and Parliamentary Representative for Grand Fond Gertrude Roberts, is expected to officially hand over a building to the Sunrise Sewing Group of Grand Fond. Roberts was able to do this by providing her land for the erection of the building and soliciting funds for its construction, according to Browne.

That building will be handed over at a ceremony in Grand Fond on Thursday.

Browne has proven that he is sincere, truthful, honest and trust his people. Browne has demonstrated his ability to be a true representative of the people. He rejects the practice by some on the other side to fool and manipulate others with gifts, money and sweet talk. He believes in affording his people the opportunity to empower themselves through training, hard work and involvement in meaningful community projects. Browne’s work also in the field of sports is commendable. He has been a main organizer of sports like cricket, table tennis and netball. Lest we forget, Ron Green’s role in community development is also praiseworthy. Ron took football in La Plaine from infancy and developed the game to greater heights in the Eastern part of the island.

Compare the present Minister of Sports with those gentlemen who for many years have shown the capacity, ability and proven track records of undivided participation in the development of young men and women in sports and other community programmes. Browne, you are the people’s true rep. Let no one dampen your spirit. The community is with you. Those persons of iniquity, who will do anything for the dollar, become rich overnight and who try to keep good men and women down, will go at any length to demonise you, but they can’t touch you in your sincerity and fairplay. Browne, continue to be the worker that you are. You are truly a role model.

Good going Farmer Browne – an alumna of the St Mary’s Academy. And how is the man, Wayne Philip? – a product of Grand Fond also – once a West Indies potential but vanished into the wilderness.
