Executive Director of the Dominica Social Security (DSS), Janice Jean-Jacques Thomas has said over its 40 years of existence, the company has made a tremendous difference on the socio-economic landscape of Dominica.

She made that statement while addressing the DSS 40th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service held at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Newtown on Monday.

“Forty years in the life of any organization is a milestone truly worth celebrating and in the case of Social Security it is especially significant given the tremendous difference that the Dominica Social Security has made on the socio-economic landscape of Dominica throughout its existence,” Jean-Jacques Thomas said.

According to her, the DSS has had a very positive impact on the lives of many persons on the island especially the senior citizens, “for whom a Social Security pension constitutes their main source of income.”

“It is only fitting that we all join in giving thanks and praise to God for the existence of so noble an institution which was established for the purpose of catering to the social protection needs of our citizenry,” she stated.

Jean- Jacques Thomas explained further that the DSS 40th Anniversary is celebrated under the theme: “40 Years of Dedicated Service and Stability Committed to Securing Future Generations”.

“ It speaks to the undisputed fact that over the last 40 years the DSS has been steadfast in delivering dedicated service to its insured persons…therefore contributing to economic stability and social cohesion while remaining committed, providing future generations with the same degree of security,” she stated.

Additionally, Jean-Jacques Thomas said the celebration is an occasion to pause and acknowledge the contribution of those who laid the foundation for the institution and for all who played a part in bringing it thus far.

“It is also a moment for all of us as stakeholders to examine our individual and collective responsibilities in ensuring the proper functioning of the system and thereby better position it to adequately secure future generations as it has past generations over the last 40 years,” she noted.

She encouraged members to continue to uphold the solidarity principle which is the core of the DSS.

“So as we celebrate today, let us do so with a spirit of gratitude and the resignation to continue to uphold the solidarity principle which is the core of Social Security, and to honour our respective obligations in ensuring the continued relevance and long-term sustainability of the Dominica Social Security,” Jean-Jacques Thomas encouraged.

She added, “Let us also be mindful of the changing realities which characterize the environment in which we live and which in large measure dictate the way in which we must now operate.”

Thirty businesses were awarded Exemplary Employees Awards, while 10 persons received Exemplary Self-Employed Awards.

One of the first employees of the DSS, Janet Joseph was also recognized.

The celebration was attended by President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Savarin and Mrs Savarin, Acting Prime Minister, Senator Robert Tonge, the opposition leader, Lennox Linton among other officials.

The Dominica Community High School was among the schools present at the event.

DSS Director, Board, Staff, Please, Please protect my money, investment, interest, my contribution to DSS away from Skerrit and this questionable DLP government. I just do not trust them. Until a comprehensive review, audit, investigation is done of this DLP government in the past 12 years, I do not trust them.
Do not succumb to Skerrit requests for money from this fund. I know you will be or may be tempted by the some members of your board who obviously have deliberately people positioned there El Supremo.
    Thanks for your great work.

Congratulations to the DSS on achieving this milestone. The true beneficiaries are those who worked hard and contributed to the program; those now who are able to have some level of security in their retirement years.
    We thank God.
