Resettlement for residents of Dubique is hoping to be completed as early as the first quarter of the New Year; Parliamentary Representative for the Petite Savanne constituency, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, has announced.
The southern community was hit hard during the passage of Tropical Storm Erika and has since been evacuated on the basis the area is unsafe. Residents are presently being housed in various locations in Grand Bay.
“Already we have seen the commencement of the number of houses to accommodate the displaced residents of the Dubique community and we are hoping to complete this resettlement by the end of the first quarter of next year,” Darroux said.
Darroux also stated that a potentially suitable location in the Bellevue Chopin area has been identified to relocate residents of Petite Savanne.
“We are currently in the process in putting all checks and balances in place and ensuring that all the relevant surveys and studies are done before the final purchase,” he noted. “Coincidentally a long-awaited CDB Basic Needs Trust Fund, Bellevue water project is said to take up to eradicate the potable water woes that the residents of Bellevue Chopin have been suffering and, of course timely to accommodate the proposed new settlement.”
Petite Savanne was also evacuated after the passage of Erika.
these houses are top stuff in these moden age, when you consider you have a door and on the same side of the house you have to skyline windows where you can just sit on your bed and see the sun rise, it you notice in one of the skyline windows you can see a 10ft ladder lining on the side you might just need that same ladder to peep into the skyline.
thank you Mr PM
WE LOVE OUR PM
Is nail they nailing them! One strong storm will blow them apart. Meanwhile nice apartments at Elmshall standing empty for months now. Why is that? Our governmnet was boasting about them but are they owned by the Chinese and not our government? Howe else can that be?
This thing remind me of barns, farmers do not put there animals in thing like this do call houses, and in this day and age government say they building homes for people and is that thing they building, what’s up with these high windows?, while they selling passport and building their mansion they building farm houses gor them fools
Over time, as their incomes increase, they usually tear down part of these houses and rebuild them. Home owners in Stockfarm did the same thing. At least they’re not homeless.
This is a container to ship goods, Thank you What!
What has happened to wood and concrete.
Yo dit pli chien maway ,pli chien modayw,,,these people have been through such pain loosing there property ,why build these farm houses for them?respect people, they vote for you all to have a bigger salary and after wards you all spite on them.is this rust or dirt on the surface of this “house” ,what type of foundation is this, these people should refuse entering in this type of thing, build proper houses for for they people ,people from dubique have been victimized for years and there is no need to continue ,we are all human beings ,the ball turns for every of us ,dominicans must wake up,never vote for people who make you think that you do not worth any thing more than what you are…we need a change ,these “houses will never stand up in another storm so why build it?
Once again..Thank you to the government and people of Venezuela for this much needed assistance.
Roseau River they do not look at all like the preformed pvc houses from Petro Caribe mr. Skerrit and his wife made such a display of at Melville Hall airport when Maduro came to see him. I am starting to think now that was all a show, done in very poor taste while he is celebrating the holidays in his luxury apartment overlooking the East River in New York. These house look more like chicken coops and I suspect they put the windows so high to stop people from looking in and see misery.
What kind of house is dat.u mean people going to live in that?that reminds me of houses that used to be in centicate they call long house.people demand something better.
Excuse me Dubique is not poor. You must take a drive to Dubique and see for yourself
your perception of poor is skewed…
If Dubique is not poor why you need govt. to give Dubuque people flimsy houses like that? I can not understand you for real.
Annonymous by now i would want to think the world (hope you are part of it) heard of TROPICAL STORM DEVASTATION WHICH LED TO THE EVACUATION OF ALL(BOLD) DUBIQUE RESIDENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! U AND QFM!!!! SMDFH
LOL that is the joke for the night. Dubique is what? Middle class to upper class? . Bahahahahhaha Bwavo
So because these people poor the government is making them poorer kennith Darroux shame on u give the people better housing accommodation
Hey The Bitcoins Minister – but he should give people bitcoins valued houses. BTW what happen to bitcoins story – Dominica is really a big story book eh pal – things just pop up and then you turn the page and something else pops up and it goes on and on..
Whut ! Hmmm Good To Know..
Unless you are 6′ tall, you won’t be able to stare through these windows.
Zeb,
I had to go back and watch the picture after your comment. lololol, you are so right.
You must be a short person or short-sighted. On the other hand, if you think the windows are high, this would deter criminals from breaking and entering. Did you give these a thought?
Seriously….. face the facts? seriously? who wants toilet windows throughout their house.
Are all of your windows in your house high like toilet windows?… I dont think so… why want it for someone else??
Build your house without windows and criminals will never get in,,,
zeb, a normal door height plus the sky lite above the door is about 94 inches high and those windows look like 24 inch windows, so from basic math we can say 94-24 is 70 inches. so the window is about 5 feet 10 inches from the floor.. the average person is about that height… my god. FACTS IS NOT REALLY FACT….
You may have your math correct. Just not sure whether 5′ 10″ is average height for a person. You’ll have to talk to one of the recipients of the house who is 5′ 3″ or 5′ 5″. Anyway you math it; dem windows too too tall. Could someone lean over these windows without standing on three concrete blocks? Don’t think so.
That is good. At least these poor people will have some privacy under their own roof. But I thought they were getting more strong Petro Caribe houses, not plywood that can not last.
Maybe I was misinformed then?
Consider how many Petro Caribe houses were previously sent. Consider also that Venezuela has a new government. Pertaining to what the newly elected official stated, the balance of the houses are at a standstill, for now anyway.
My assumption is, the PM cannot wait for this man to make a decision which could take some months or as much as one year. Time waits for no one and the houses must be built for the displaced residents.
At least you could have announced the number of houses completed to date. The 2016 1st quarter completion timetable is laughable.
No photo to show work progress?
De pm doh have photos on his Facebook page to show us?
It is my understanding that when the venezuelans left town a couple days before the election that 6 houses were works in progress.
Have these 6 houses been completed?
Could you boldly post pics as proof?
Photos please? ?????????
go up there to see for yourself if you sooooo concern
hear hear!!!!
venezuela need more help than dominica..the politicans are bankrupt of ideas that they turn to the nation with the worst financial standing in the world. while their main source of funds is from sale of passport, while they drive a stake through the heart of agriculture and politicize every aspect of our livelihood. so now is sousay selk
Is that wat you guys calling a housing settlement for Dominicans ? Would any minister of government live in those 2×4 pretty fab buildings. .. You politicians are very
Out of place to put those poor people in poor houses yet you guys live in million dollar mansion.
Dominica is a modern day slave state.. the very persons who chant freedom songs and betterment for the poor are enslaving the poor. These slave masters know that the poor are at there Beck and call for practically everything from sanitation napkins to flushing toilets.
These poor people, sadly are at the mercy of these politicians and oppressors.
Do they think that because Dubique folks are poor that they can just give them nonsense houses ?
This government has no regard for the poor. The present PM is now rubbing his noise with the rich and famous but only using the poor for votes
Poor people are people too. We all going 6ft deep when we die. Poor people rise up. Don’t support…
It would be generous of you if you contributed to this new project.
Do you expect a mansion to be built for each person/family?
Did anyone of them live in one when TS Erika struck?
Very ungreaful comment . You should come out and build a manison for them . be grateful for the shelter .
Hope it is DARROUX,Venezula will not be providing anymore.
