Student Services Director at the Dominica State College (DSC) Edgar Hunter has described the Mas Jamboree Pageant as a major marketing tool which constitutes a “tremendous contribution to Dominica’s carnival staple.”

He was speaking at the launch of the contestants for this year’s pageant on Tuesday at the DSC.

Hunter stated that the success of the College is as a result of their “actions being guided by the motto of the institution ‘Beyond Quality and Excellence.’”

“DSC Mas Jamboree can take pride in the fact that it is presently the major marketing tool for the Dominica State College,” he said.

He went on to highlight the performances by various bands and local artistes to feature at the event and appealed to business companies to aid in the alleviation of financial costs that come with the event.

“Hosting an event of this magnitude is a costly exercise and I am therefore appealing to members of the business community and other individuals to come forward and partner with us,” he stated.

The sponsorship may be geared towards one of the seven contestants or towards the event in its entirety, he said.

Hunter mentioned the benefits of sponsorship of the pageant to the business community and individuals.

“Sponsorship of Mas Jamboree provides you with a remarkable opportunity to profit your company’s image as a good cooperate citizen and to increase sales and branding,” he affirmed.

Hunter also stated that the Pageant “does a lot for the contestants.”

“Not only does it promote the values of good self esteem and self confidence, but it also helps to emphasize excellence, achievement and personal growth,” he said.

He described the pageant as one that is a “unique event” and a “Event which is like no other on the carnival calendar” which the State College has created.

The 2017 Mas Jamboree Pageant is carded for February 23rd 2017 at the Fore Court of the Stadium at 5:00 pm.

Seven students attending the college will be competing to take home the crown.

what i find disturbing is that – there seem to be a disregard for Christmas or anything that celebrates Jesus in
this country. We hardly here anything about or see Christmas celebration yet in Christmas season we are promoting carnival already . there is a store in roseau that has carnival costumes in their showcase. i said to the lady while fixing the showcase “so what about Christmas decorations?” she said “WHat Christmas!” Yet we call ourselves a christian nation. Then when our children have no point of reference for who and what they are we cry foul when they display and behave in ways that shame us.

Mr Editor. Are you certain that Mr Hunter stated that the “DCS Mas Jamboree can take pride in the fact that it is presently the major marketing tool for the Dominica State College. Domnicans, take some time and read the statement a few times. DSC is Dominica’s highest education institution. If I am looking at the qualities of a school, this is the last marketing tool I would look to. Sorry state of affairs. Of course, we know who call the shots at the State College.
