Erika strengthened sense of unity in Petite Savanne – Darroux

Darroux said he saw unity in Petite Savanne after Erika

Parliamentary representative of the Petite Savanne Constituency, Dr. Kenneth Darroux said Tropical Storm Erika has strengthened the sense of unity among the residents of Petite Savanne.

The Minister made that statement while addressing the World Teacher’s Day Healing Mass held at Our Lady of Fatima Church at Newtown on Friday.

Tropical Storm Erika devastated sections of the island on August 27 and Petite Savanne was among the hardest hit areas. The community has since been declared unsafe and residents evacuated.

He noted that following the passage of the storm there was an enormous sense of unity among residents of Petite Savanne.

“I think Erika had taught us a lot in that if we put our minds together and if we unite we can achieve great things … I did see unity in Petite Savanne,” he said. “Doesn’t matter whether you had an eight bedroom mansion, doesn’t matter if you had a 2 x 4, a shack, everybody ended up being on the same page.”

He noted that such times are not for division or, “petty quarrels and petty politics, religion, social class.”

“Because I being on the ground in Petite Savanne from the moment that happen I realize for a few hours everybody was on the same page,” Dr.Darroux remarked.

He stated that certain people in society are looked down upon because of thier religious beliefs, social class or economic standing but Erika changed all that.

“What Erika showed me is that for this few hours, especially immediately after the storm and during the vacation period, that everybody forgot for one minute who they were and everybody was just one mind,” he stated.

Darroux said the people of Petite Savanne must be commended for such thinking.

He who feels it knows it… only the people in the fire can say how hot it is… all I can say is that hopefully the solidarity they as a community have achieved will continue. And that they will be appreciative of the efforts made on their behalf by other Dominicans as well as PS people in other countries because the sense of community of not limited to a geographical location.

I feel for the people of Petite Savane and feel sorry for Dr. Darroux. He means well but how can he talk of a sense of unity in Petite Savanne when there is no community left there? That don’t make sense. He could express himself better and buy a shirt that fits him properly.

Oh goodness…. @Tjebe fort …. it is an eye-sore and mind buggling reading comments from dried up braincells like yours. Mr.Darroux is talking about the” people of Petite Savanne” and not the piece of land. Are you one of the kids who got a free Ipad? You sure present yourself on here as one who has just gotten a device and is learning to use it. There are alphabets and lots to read on there. Go exercise your brains and learn something before coming on here making a fool of yourself. Don’t make me look bad as a Dominican

The problem with people as you, you love to tell others what to say and put words in their mouths and expect them to think and talk as you do. This is not unity.
I will ask, who are you and since you want to be smart and smarter than Dr. Darroux, why do you not campaign for election?
What he said makes good sense which should not have to be repeated to you and to make explicit.
Even though they do not reside in Petite Savanne any more, they are still from that area and have much in common and TS Erika did bring them together. Some are in Grand Bay, others at the Grammar School and residing elsewhere. It still brought them together as one. Consider after the storm struck and their helpful attitude to each other.
Did they not have to return to salvage what they could in Petite Savanne? I imagine their feeling to one another when they returned.
