An ecumenical service on Sunday 15th September, which marked the official opening of the Paix Bouche Primary School 50th anniversary celebrations, was described as excellent by organizers.
During the month of September the school and community will undertake various activities to commemorate its golden jubilee.
Speaking to Dominica News Online, coordinator Murium Massicot, described Sunday’s celebration as “excellent.”
“Everyone who attended had positive things to say about it. All our past principals were present and they were so excited to be there to meet the students. It was almost like a reunion for the school,” she said.
Massicot added that the ecumenical services included members of the Catholic Church Saints of Light Ministry, as well as members of the Paix Bouche Baptist Church, who conducted the service.
“Some of the past students performed a song, as well as a dance by members of the Paix Bouche Baptist Church,” she stated. “That took place during the service part of the ceremony. At the official opening we had an overview of the events, then remarks from the current Principal, Mrs Cynthia Joseph, as well as Mrs Vernice Bellony, the longest serving principal of the school, then performances from the school choir and Olania Thomas a past student of the school. We also had remarks from Mrs Chandler Hyacinth representing the Ministry of Education.”
Hyacinth also declared the anniversary celebrations open.
The anniversary is being celebrated under the theme “Years of Class 1963-2013, Education for Now and Beyond.”
A Grand Assembly and Walk-A-Mile-In-My-Shoe, Feed the Children/Eat Fish Day, Night of Story Telling and Ring Games, an exhibition/Awards and Cocktail and an Over-the-Year’s Talent Explosion are some of the other activities expected to take place.
