Cyrus Matthew Sebastien, a father of two from Coulibistrie, has made a call for stiffer penalties, even castration, for men who sexually abuse children.
There have been a number of cases of child sex abuse in the courts lately and the matter has been the center of public discourse in Dominica.
“It is time the authorities take a stand and if any man is found guilty of child molestation the maximum sentence that should be given is 75 years in prison,” Sebastien said while participating in an event against child abuse recently. “And also a part from the 75 years in prison I think they should detach their penises from their bodies….”
He wants equally harsh punishments for women who he said encourage men to abuse their children.
“I remember the Taliban in Afghanistan where such women would have been attached to a horse back and driven along a playing field. This would have been the punishment for the women,” he opined.
The emotional father said most of the time he is brought to tears when he hears of the abuse of minors by grown men.
“It burns my heart when I see what men are doing to children in this world,” he noted.
Sebastien mentioned also that he is very much concerned about, not only his two daughters, but the generation to come.
“I have been hearing and noticing what is happening, the evil that is happening to children, they are being molested, they are offered ice cream, corn curls, ice pop and then and some of the men do wrong to them,” he stated.
He described himself as “a real man.”
“I can lie down on my back, on my bed, on my pillow, wherever and my children play with me, go on my back, put food in my mouth and I feel good. I don’t feel embarrassed. I feel like a man and I make sure that I deal with my daughters as children,” Sebastien said.
He said some women and mothers play a role in the abuse of children.
“They take bribes from the men. Men offer them money whether $500, $600 or $1000, men offer them appliances such as stoves, telephones and televisions just to keep their mouths shut,” Sebastien said.
