Dominican-born retired police prosecutor Jefferson Knight, who served Her Majesty The Queen in Her Majesty’s Royal Virgin Islands Police Force in the British Virgin Islands, is to be recognized for his positive contribution to the development of the public service and the territory of the BVI.
In a letter dated May 27, 2011, from the Department of Human Resources Department BVI and addressed to the retired inspector, the author of the letter wrote: “Through out the years, your service to the community of the BVI, has been IMMEASURABLE”.
Inspector Knight has been invited to participate in this year’s Public Service Recognition Ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 6 pm at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.
He was also invited to be a guest of honor at a retirement dinner which will be held on his behalf on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 7 pm
at the Moorings Marina Inn hosted by Governor Boyd McCleary.
Knight joined the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force on December 29, 1986 at age 18. He retired from the force on May 31, 2010 at age of 42 after serving for 23 years and five months.
In the last ten years of his career, he worked in the magistrate’s court/Office of the DPP as the police prosecutor.
Known as “Knight Rider” in the calypso arena, he was a popular calypsonian in the BVI with one of the most memorable songs: “We want representation for de island-man”.
Knight is a British Overseas Territories Citizen of the BVI and a British citizen of the United Kingdom and Northern Islands.
As a young-retiree, he spends most of his time freelancing.
Congrats my friend, we go back a long way strting in the arena of Cricket and you have been a friend from since then. I followed your Calypso contributions and your professional contribution to the BVI from when you started. Thank you for making us proud to be Dominicans and welcome home. You still have alot to offer in service and I hope that the Government of Dominica utilize you youth and experience. Now it is my pleasure to take care of you as you now reside in my district.

In April Bernadine Maynard was knighted by the Queen of the Netherland (Holland). Bernadine is a very active memebr of the Roman Catholic church in Philipsburg, St.Maarten
