French yacht sinks off Dominica

A French yacht worth some 85,000 Euros sank off Dominica’s coast last Friday, according to reports from the police.

Police PRO Inspector John Carbon said the incident occurred six nautical miles west of Portsmouth.

The police report that the vessel, Ti Bouchon, began taking on water and captain and sole occupant abandoned it for a small life boat.

The captain, identified as French national Willy Joel Goutier, was rescued by the Dominica Coast Guard.

He has since returned to Guadeloupe.

On Friday, June 15, a Dominican cargo boat sank when it collide with a French catamarran off the coast of Dublanc.

DNO, whether or not this project has been included in the MOU, I suspect we need the Chinese to construct a highway with proper lighting, signs, drainage, and without any pot holes on the rough waters off the Dominican coast so that we could reduce on these accidents in our waters. I do not understand how come so many boats are sinking and even colliding with each other in the vast open blue sea. We know that things are rough on land and the citizens of the country are sinking in debt, poverty etc but we didn’t know that even for boats traverse

sing our waters it is so rough out there.

Come on people, don’t thumbs down me now….this was just an awful attempt at humor.

I wish to join Peeping Tom in congratulating the Drug squad and the Coast guard Unit of the Dominica Police Force and the Preventive Branch of the Dominica Customs and Excise Department for a job well done. It is our hope that this is just the beginning of many more such busts following the commissioning of the two new vessels donated by the American government. Soon, we’ll hearing of cocaine busts, human trafficking busts, illegal immigrant busts, money-laundering busts etc. as the police in consultation with their American and French counterparts increase their patrol and surveillance of the hitherto unprotected northern coast of Dominica to the chagrin of those who are intent in engaging in these illegal activities in our waters.
