The government and the opposition will be meeting with visiting Dominicans as the island celebrates its 38th anniversary on Independence.

The opposition is expected to hold a meeting at the Prevost Cinemall on Thursday, October 27, at 10:00 am, while the government will meet with visiting nationals at its annual Diaspora Forum on November 1 at the State House Conference room from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.

The opposition said the meeting is convened mainly to address returning/visiting Dominicans on the “Social, Economic and other critical governance issues affecting the sustainable development of the Commonwealth of Dominica.”

The government said the forum will give visiting nationals “an opportunity to interact with the Cabinet of Dominica and to deliberate on matters of national development. All visiting overseas nationals are therefore invited to attend.”

The event will be held under the theme “Strengthening Our Commitment Through Investment.”

Speakers will include Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit; Roselyn Paul, Minister for Commerce, Enterprise and Small Business Development; Ian Douglas, Minister for Trade, Energy and Employment and Dr. Kenneth Darroux, Minister for Health and Environment.

There will also be an interactive segment for discussion, as well as questions and answers.

The government’s forum will be carried live via local radio stations and the internet and those living overseas who are not able to attend are encouraged to tune in.

DNO why haven’t you posted any news on the UWP session with returning nationals. Is it because there were only three persons and one reporter?

What do these meetings accomplish? Just asking because I can’t point to anything that has come off these meeting.

If someone can highlight one good thing that has come as a result of these meetings, please do not hesitate to point them out.

Once again as we approach independent day in Dominica I wish we would remember the one who fought to bring us thus far. Regardless of the hustle treatment he received from the hands of others. MR. Patric John should enjoyed some type of recognition from Dominicans for his hard work and dedication to bring Dominica to where it is know. I not a politician I am just a fear man who evaluate the matter. I like Mr. Skerrit I believe we Dominican should give the the credit he deserves while he is well and has the strength to enjoy it know.

No! you can’t compare Skerritt to positive Dominicans. He has only looked out for himself. Dominica is far worse off than all other Caribbean islands. Unless you are okay with the lower standard of living in Da.

This sounds like an advertisement for the government! When they are ready, they call Dominicans in the diaspora all sorts of names and tell them were to go with their questions and comments!!

But then when people come home, they pretend that they wish to share with us in ‘open forums’ and invite us to the MAGNIFICENT STATE HOUSE to attempt to impress!! I wonder how many questions will be prepared, accepted and maybe even vetted!! Let’s see what transpires this time around as they try to pull wool over people’s eyes!!

I believe your comment ‘Concerned Dominican’ was not meant to be referring to our government.

I will go listen to hear what new ideas UWP have on their agenda to improve the lives of my people .
It is clear that after so many years of coming home , I have not seen the internationally accepted changes that I have seen in SM,ST or St. Kitts. I don’t want much but just the simple things like , good roads, hospitals near the airport, and a cleaner city. Some villages sill don’t have water.

    • October 27, 2016

please remind me which of the village’s do not have water?
