One good thing the DLP learnt from the UWP People’s Parliament… bringing the Parliamentary Debate on the 2015 to 2016 National Budget to the people of Mahaut. DLP not too fresh to learn from good practices of the UWP… LMAO

What a bunch of ………….Upside down, Back-to front, tomfoolery, putting the cart before the horse, non-participatory approach to managing a country.

Total disrespect to the people of Dominica. No opportunity to input into the crafting of the budget. Nothing like that. Their ideas are not important, even though their lives are affected and the standards of living have gone down, down, down. People are getting poorer by the ills of corruption and its practioners. No futuristic plans to grow the economy, so that people’s lives could be better. One set, the nouveau rich eating all.

Ideas would come from pre-budget meetings in communities. These would then be discussed, documented, sifted, and the priority, programmes/projects taken on board.

Those town-hall meetings, after Skerritt and his cabal impose all those taxes on already hard-pressed people, are futile attempts to pacify the disadvantaged.

Where are the jobs? Cost of living, more taxes…

This is very positive move by our Government. I do hope that as many people as possible attend the meetings and take the opportunity to ask the relevant questions which concern them. I welcome this move. Well done PM!!

The VAT tax is all consuming and in the end deeply retards growth. Taxation saps incentive and that is how countries and economies fail. There will be no end to government regulations and interference.
This all leads to a small coterie of the rich, a shrinking middle class and those with jobs and those without jobs.

If it is so that we can get them to face the public, I think we should embrace the opportunity to ask them real tough questions and give them the opportunity to comment on the specific proposals by the UWP to grow our economy.

What good would that do? They would only tell us what we want to hear, i. e. lies and empty promises spiced with plenty of DLP propaganda.

This can be a good thing but requires a lot of participation. For this to be useful it needs to be repeated midway in the cycle so that one can see if anything positive has resulted . it will only work if people ask good but objective questions . The responders must be honest and be humble. Let’s hope it works !

This Dominican time must stop. It should be 6:30 or 7:00 not between….. What then is the purpose of this activity when the budget takes effect shortly? Consultation and community participation should not be limited to mere explanation of policy decisions. Citizens must have confidence in their leaders to make just, fair and equitable decisions and provisions on their behalf. Measures must not be seen as desperate but well thought out contracts between those who are responsible for acquiring and managing the country’s resources and the populace.

This is a wonderful idea however it would have been more relevant if it was discussed with the people before being accepted in the Parliament.
I am happy they see the need for discussing this budget with the public. I want to know why they increased the tax on sweet foods and did not reduce on fruits and vegetables, meat increased why wasn’t beans and peas reduced?
If this is meant to improve lives them stress should be alleviated. We cannot increase the cost of living for the poor man and expect them not to suffer from Hypertension and diabetes when we know that these diseases are directly related to stress. I see this move as one more way to bring in revenue not help the population.
Mr PM as much as I respect you and the Govt I believe that this need to be better handled. I see it as one more way of bringing revenue not helping the population.
And I do agree that the
