Haiti donates US$250,000 to Dominica in wake of Maria

Haiti has donated US$250,000 to Dominica for recovery efforts in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria.

Permanent Representative of Haiti to the UN, Denis Regis said at a recent donor conference in New York that his country will donate the same amount to Barbuda, which was devastated by Hurricane Irma.

“The Republic of Haiti, having been hit hard by a series of deadly natural disasters over the last 10 years,” he said, adding that his country knows the multiplicity of obstacles which is faced in reconstructing and rehabilitating critical infrastructure.

He said he was honored to announce the assistance.

“I have the honor to announce that the Government of Haiti, despite the difficult economic and financial situation of the country, but fully involved in international solidarity is pleased to contribute US $ 250,000 to the reconstruction efforts of each of the sister nations of Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica, so hard hit by hurricanes Irma and Maria,” Regis remarked.

He stated that although the contribution is “modest,” it is “nonetheless a testimony of friendship and fraternity, in the tradition of mutual aid and regional solidarity of the Caribbean Community, and in the spirit of international cooperation…”

    Mark 12:41-44
    42. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
    43. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
God bless Haiti for her generosity and sacrifice ,going back to the days of slavery.

Hey Faceup, I believed you need to educate yourself better than that. Yes we are poor but Haiti is a country like every country and this is our gorverment duty to play part as well. DOMINICA gorverment have been welcomed us to their land with love for so many years if our gorverment donates some money to rebuild the island this is a sign of THANKS and LOVE after all. Next time don’t judge your neighbours only outside you need to know a little bit inside before you talk.

That shocked me to see Haiti helping with so much money that’s simple mean Dominican must unite as one, and fix back the country enough monies have been donating use it wisely, do not side track it and putting a bigger figure to rebuild Dominica.

    December 1, 2017

Thank you very much Haiti. God bless Haiti.
DNO, Mr. Flynn is now at Court and is to plead guilty to Lying to FBI. That’s very important to the people of Dominica, especially in light of your report yesterday about ” US Treasury Office accuses Dominica Maritime Registry of violating Iranian sanctions”, for which DMRI was given a little slap on the risk by OFAC. But DNO I saw the comments of Dominicans yesterday and I am shocked that some took that little slap as a warning to suggest that it was not a serious offence. But the expected confession of Mr. Flynn should say to Dominicans that the FBI have a way of digging out stuff in order to find the source of the problem and giving an individual a slap on the risk must not be taken lightly because FBI gives nothing for nothing. Trust me, that slap “warning” is a sign that DMRI may have vomited some crucial information to them as they investigate the corrupt oil for gold sanction against Iran, and the role of Monfared in it

For a country like Haiti ,with all its myriad of challenges, to still donate monetarily to Dominica, is truly remarkable., Dominica has gotten very generous contributions and donations from near and far., Let’s hope that these acts of generosity would truly redound to the benefit of the country and to every individual citizen who was adversely affected by Maria. Despite the decadence and wickedness that keep swirling around us everyday, there are still some magnanimous people around.
