Haitian community in Dominica holds mass today in memory of earthquake victims

The Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake devastated the capital Port-au-Prince, killing over 300,000 people.

The Haitian community in Dominica will assemble at the Roseau Cathedral Wednesday to remember those who have passed on following the destructive earthquake of January 12, 2010.

More than 200,000 people reportedly died in the 7.0 magnitude quake, while 1.5 million were left without a home.

Several Haitians in Dominica lost family members in the quake, according to President of the Dominica/Haiti Association Roland Desire.

“Some of us [lost] one, two, three and some of us their entire family has died…It is a very tragic day for us,” he said.

The mass will be held from 3 p.m. and employers are being called upon to give Haitian staff time off to attend the activity and remember their loved ones who died as a result of the earthquake.

In the Georgia, USA, they have erected a monument in recognition of the Haitians who fought with the Americans in the war of independence with Great Britain, but inconsiderate Dominicans are discriminating against them. Ask some of the farmers how they would survive without Haitian workers. The youths of Dominica prefer to spend all day hanging out on the corner rather that working the land. GOD BLESS THE HAITIANS.

We like to live in our people’s country but do not like people living in ours.

All Dominicans should be deported back to Dominica. It would be interesting to see how we would survive.

THE HAITIANS ARE DOING WHAT YOU LAZY DOMINICANS DO NOT WANT TO DO.

i am a dominican living abroad, and i personally think that the surviving haitiens should put their trust in god and stop with that voodoo crap. remember noah and the flood. god has ways of punishing us for our sins. so you haitiens stop doing voodoo and casting spells etc. when you all get a chance to escape from haiti make a better life for yourselves.

  8. Haiti Paying the Price
    January 12, 2011

Haiti is PAYING THE PRICE as the FIRST BLACK NATION TO SUCCESSFULLY LIBERATE ITSELF FROM THE SCOURGES OF COLONIALISM. Toussaint L’Ouverture, the other Haitian Freedom fighters and the people of Haiti defeated the mighty French Army. The SLAVE TRADE, SLAVERY was an ABOMINATION which brought misery and destruction to the country and its inhabitants.

To those countries deeply involved in colonialism and the Slave Trade, the Haitians were wrong to SPEAK OUT or STAND up against the injustices and to fight against those who controlled all facets of their lives. The US imperialists, Govt. and Big Business continued the PILLAGE of the poor people. Haitian DICTATORS, supported by those countries, FRANCE, BRITAIN, THE US and other imperialist countries, were allowed to rule the people with an iron hand. All those countries were (still are) involved in enslaving Africans and people of African descent. African warlords and others in authority in Africa and other parts of the world, connived with those countries, received kickbacks, and played a big role in helping to enslave their own brothers and sisters.

UP TO TODAY, Slavery continues. Slavery has NEVER ENDED. Another kind of Slavery, MENTAL SLAVERY, STILL ENGULF many NATIONS. In Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, the Middle East, US, Europe. MENTAL SLAVERY PERSIST turning the masses into ZOMBIES. The ordinary Poor people are so manipulated and fooled with material things that they consciously or unconsciously give support to those who enslave them. How SAD.

Many are schooled to accept and condone dictatorship, corruption, bad Governance and slave-like mentalities. Certainly, even today, many, many, many Haitians still revere and love the dictators PAPA DOC and BABY DOC. Countries are impoverished due to the continuation of slavery-like policies.

Haiti was once the BREAD-BASKET of the Region. Now Haiti’s agriculture is in shambles. Its mountains bare, its people reeling, drowning in poverty, while the international community looks on, few willing to stretch a helping hand to ease the humiliating situation of the Haitians. The situation will continue for a long time to come because to those imperialist countries, which gained so much from the Slave trade, Haitians were too RUDE, TOO FAST, too KONPAWAZON to wage a determined struggle for their FREEDOM 200 plus years ago.

That is why Dominicans MUST Be on their P’s and Q’s to resist DICTATORSHIP and continued MENTAL ENSLAVEMENT of the MAJORITY by a FEW, who are bent on amassing RICHES through all means possible while the masses get poorer and poorer. Mental slavery is a major concern in my country. We are witnessing in our lovely Dominica, that anyone who dare question or express concerns about dictatorial rule, bribery or corrupt practices, disrespect for LAW and ORDER by those in public Office, are DEMONISED.

Those who call for FREE and FAIR elections, seeing the trends where elections are being stolen and electoral laws are not adhered to, are branded as trouble-makers. Today, WRONG is RIGHT and RIGHT is WRONG. Those things helped to KILL Haiti. My brothers and sisters BEWARE. A stitch in time saves nine. My people better be safe than sorry. My HEART goes out to Haiti and the Haitian people.

You are so right. As long as the Europeans are in control slavery will be perpetuated. Where is all the donations that our brothers and sisters in haiti were promised? These European powers have to pay for all the bloodshed, pillage and destruction that they have cause upon the face of this earth. Anytime a nation is anti these European countries, they unite to wipe that nation out.

I pray to the Creator, Yahweh, that all those donor agencies that pledged their support would live up to their promises and deliver to the Community the funds, assistance and support to rebuild this nation!!
Trust in Yahweh, all things are possible in his name.
